VELMA HENDERSON
APRIL 29, 1919 –
OCTOBER 9, 2012
Velma lived a long and rewarding life but after 93 years was ready to re-connect with her husband Murray, her twin sister Elma and her parents.
Sad to see her go but blessed for having had her in their lives, are her daughters Barb (California), Diane (Texas), Donna (Oshawa, Ontario) and her son Paul (Sue) from Lethbridge as well as eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
North York, Ontario was home until she and Murray started to spend winters in Harlingen Texas. Velma volunteered very extensively in a local elementary school while in her winter retreat in Texas. She found this very fulfilling and a gratifying past time and loved being around the children.
Summers were initially spent in Oshawa with Donna’s family but over the years she began to spend more time in Lethbridge with Paul, Sue and family. She lived at Garden View Lodge, St. Therese Villa and as her Alzheimer’s progressed most recently at Edith Cavell Care Centre.
The family would like to especially thank Darlene Duncan from Paradigm for the companionship and wonderful support she provided Velma over the years. We also appreciate the wonderful care that Velma received from the staff of Edith Cavell.
Velma was loved for her personality, witty humor and was very much the life of the party. Later in life she enjoyed watching young children at play, knitting, walking, and going for car rides with a stop at Tim Hortons.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined but should you wish, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
