ARROWSMITH,
Ethel May (nee Holden)
December 4, 1921 – May 5, 2012
Ethel was born in Renfrew Country, Ontario on December 4, 1921 and passed away peacefully on May 5, 2012 at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary. Ethel leaves to mourn her loss five daughters, Charlotte (Frank) Caron, Linda (Dave) Dougherty, Audrey Arrowsmith, Mary Jane (Ward) Bicknell, Clara (Mike) Barry and two sons, James (Jean) Arrowsmith and Les Arrowsmith; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and her beloved puppy Shadow. She is also survived by her sister Iva (Mel) Gunderson; her brother Steve (Edith) Holden; numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend Mary Carver from Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bert; her daughters Gwen and Marilyn; her son Ryan; as well as three grandsons and one great grandson in infancy. Mom moved to the Castor district at a very young age. She grew up and took all her schooling in Castor, AB. In 1942 she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC) where she met her husband Bert. Once she was discharged, they moved to Turin, AB where they farmed and ranched until 1964. After moving to Calgary, Ethel and Bert were foster parents to many children who needed loving care. One of these children became her third son and one became her nephew. She also belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion, Bowness Branch 238 and the Royal Order of Moose, Bowness Montgomery Branch 1380.

Funeral Service to be held Pierson’s Garden of Peace Chapel (243208 Garden Road NE or 16 Ave and Garden Road/100 St NE, Calgary) on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 11:00 am with interment to follow. The family would like to thank the staff at the Chinook Care Centre for the special care and love shown to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital (2888 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB, T3B 6A8) or to a charity of your choice. LORRAINE BULL SHIELDS passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on April 30th, 2012 at the age of 48 years.
The Wake Service will be held at the Streets Alive Mission (323 4th Street South), Lethbridge, Alberta on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m and continue from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight at the Old Saipoyi Gym, Stand Off, Alberta.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Pawel Andrasz Celebrant. Interment in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Blood Reserve.

HERMAN
JOHN ALBERT (JACK) HERMAN passed away peacefully May 6, 2012 in Lethbridge.
Jack was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan on February 25, 1931. He grew up in Bindloss, Alberta and became a teacher, taking his first job in a one-room schoolhouse in Bow Island in 1950 at 19 years of age. In 1953 he married Lorry Niwa and moved to Milk River where he taught shop and junior high school, later becoming the elementary school Principal. He completed his Master of Education degree at the University of Oregon during the summers from 1966 to 1970, then moved to Taber where he worked as an administrator for the Taber School Division. He retired at age 56 from the position of Deputy Superintendent. In 2000, Jack moved to Lethbridge with his second wife, Magdolna (Maggie) Turmer.
Jack is survived by his wife Magdolna. Also surviving are daughters Louine of Sherbrooke QC, Kathleen and Maureen of Victoria BC, and step-daughter Andrea. Jack enjoyed his grandchildren, Paris (Puja), Musa, Adora and Donovan. He is pre-deceased by his first wife, Lorraine Agnes (née Niwa), daughter Jacquelynne Rose, parents John Raymond and Rosella Agnes (née Donovan), and brothers Patrick Edward and William James (Bill). His surviving brother Leroy Thomas (Bud) lives in Ontario.
Jack touched many lives across Southern Alberta as an educator. He was noted for his generosity, helping many new Canadians to settle in the region and assisting the elderly. He loved animals, gardening and socializing. We will remember Jack as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was well-respected in his community. We all will miss him.
Memorial service: Thursday May 10th, 2:00 p.m., St. Martha’s Church, 355 Columbia Blvd. West Lethbridge. Graveside interment to be held at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Acadia Valley, in June. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael's Health Centre, Palliative Care.


HUNT
MRS. JANET HUNT of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Bill Hunt Sr., passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the age of 65 years.
She is survived by her son Bill (Eryn) Hunt and beloved grandchildren, Spencer and Ethan. She is also survived by her sister Carl of Cranbrook BC, as well as her special group of friends who were there for her until the very end.
Janet was born and raised in Lethbridge and for many years worked at The Bank of Nova Scotia in Lethbridge, Picture Butte, and Coaldale. She later worked at Sears in Lethbridge. She will be missed for her always present smile, her outgoing personality, and her ability to find the positive in any situation. Janet was always a big kid at heart, her favourite place to go was Disneyland and she could spend hours in toy stores shopping for her family. She found great joy in the simple things in life, and was a loyal friend, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Southminster United Church 1011 – 4 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Reverend Deborah Lannon, officiating.

ROBERT NELSON HILL (September 5, 1914- April 23, 2012)
Robert (Bob) Hill, beloved husband of the late Margaret Hill, of Vulcan passed away at Vulcan Hospital on April 23, 2012 at the age of 97 years.
Bob will be dearly missed by his 5 children: Duane (Rita) Hill, Gary (Doreen) Hill; Joyce Hegland; Linda (Tom) Sawyer; and Marjorie Van Camp (Wade Russell). He leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters-in- law, Helen Hill and Dorrie Asplund.
Bob, the sixth child of Nile and Ada Hill, was born on a farm near Chester, Montana on Sept.5, 1914. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret in 2006, all of his siblings, son-in-law David Hegland and daughter-in-law Yvonne Hill.
Following Grade 10, Dad began as a hired hand for Fred Hutchings at the Marquis Farm near Nobleford. It was there that he met Mom whom he married on Oct.3, 1938. They celebrated their 67 anniversary prior to Mom’s passing on the March 26, 2006.
Mom and Dad mixed farmed from 1939 to 1969 north of Vulcan where Duane continues to farm. In 1967, they moved to town where Dad continued to live until Boxing Day 2011, when he broke his hip.
Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 240 Sinclair Road, Vulcan, officiated by Rev. Gordon Cranch.
Inurement at Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge, at later date.

VANDENBERG
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Hendrikus "Henry" Vandenberg, at the age of 82 years old on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Henry was born in Lunteren, the Netherlands on August 30, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in 1948.
