Borggard – Helen Lucille (nee Sorgard)
February 4, 1914 – June 13, 2012
Helen Lucille Borggard beloved wife of the late Clarence John Borggard, passed away on June 13, 2012 at the age of 98 years.
Lucille is survived her children, Delwyn Borggard, Louise Veres, Harlan Borggard and Allan Borggard as well as 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Lucille was predeceased by husband, parents George and Agnes Sorgard and 9 brothers and sisters.
Lucille was born on the family homestead in the Turin area. The homestead was sold and ranchland was bought on the Little Bow River where they lived until 1927. She married Clarence in 1935 and they farmed in the Iron Springs area until 1949 when they sold the farm and bought the Grassy Lake Hotel. They worked very hard in their new business and were very active supporters of the community. Lucille was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed all sports but her main interest became golf that she and her husband took up in the early sixties. They both became excellent golfers which they continued in Fernie, BC, in 1963 when they purchased the Alpine Motel and Restaurant. After successfully building and selling the business they moved to Kamloops and then to Calgary. Following retirement in the mid 70’s they took their golf game to Phoenix in the winter and Montana and BC in the summer. In the early 80’s, they found Riondel, in the Kootenays. They joined both the Riondel and the Kokanee Springs clubs. Lucille was very competitive for such a shy lady, but her play wasn’t shy. She won many club championships; they finally presented her with a trophy engraved ‘Lucille "Low Gross" Borggard’. She was also a talented amateur artist and her family has many fine oils to show for her efforts. Following Clarence’s passing in 1994 she continued to travel until the late 90’s when she moved into River Ridge in Lethbridge where she lived until her eyesight began to fail; in 2004 she moved into an assisted living facility. She continued to be active and maintained her health by exercise. Lucille continued her interest in public affairs, and to her last days, she held very strong views on self-reliance and responsibility; she voted in the last provincial election even though she was ailing.
Lucille was a kind, gentle, and caring person with a good sense of humor. She will be sadly missed. We thank our sister Louise, our cousin Elaine Sorgard and Adaptacare and staff, all who went the extra mile in caring for our mother.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 27th, 2012, at Cornerstone Funeral Home, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive S., Lethbridge, AB. A reception will be held in Cornerstone Funeral Home’s Reception Room with family and friends invited.
CAMERON, LUCY JOHANNA
Our beautiful Lucy (Little Mama) passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 21, 2012, just 25 days short of her 100th birthday. She was born in Petoskey, Michigan on August 15, 1912.
Lucy was well known for her competitive little spirit when horseshoeing and bowling. At one time she was the oldest women in Canada actively horse shoeing. She was very proud of all her trophies. She learned to drive at 76 and golfed at Fort Macleod Golf Course at 95; even pulling her own cart! One of her favorite sayings just prior to her passing was "I have nothing wrong with me!"
Lucy was an inspiration to all who knew her, kind, considerate, positive and always so sweet. We were so lucky to have such a wonderful mother.
She was predeceased by her husband Archie in 1986, son Kenneth in 1939 and granddaughter Kristie in 2009.
Her children will all dearly miss her but are so happy she lived such a healthy life, enjoying her family, friends and activities so much. Missing her are her children, Jeanette Mayhew, Donald Cameron (Bozena), Autumn Sterk (George), Pat Latwat (George), Doug Cameron (Sue), Kathy DeVries (Pete). She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A 100th birthday celebration was planned for Lucy on Saturday, August 18, 2012. We will now have a "Celebration of Life" on the same day at 1:00PM at the LETHBRIDGE SENIORS CENTRE, 500- 11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. We, the family would love to have you join us to honour our Mother’s life on that date.

KAPLAN
It is with deep sadness that the family of Cecilia Kaplan announce the sudden passing of their beloved mother and grandmother at the age of 92 years. The Lord has called her home to join once again with her husband Frank, in eternal rest.
Cecilia was born on November 7, 1919 in the village of Plesivica, Brezovica, Slovenia. She was forced to flee her country during the war, taking refuge in an Austrian refugee camp. Cecilia, her mother, and four siblings emigrated to Canada in 1948, where she established her reputation as a talented cook, a talent the family had many years to appreciate.
Cecilia’s heart was generous and kind, and much of her infectious joy came from a deep faith and daily prayer; her confidence that God would see her through anything. We trust He is holding her in His arms today, as He has promised.
Cecilia’s gentle spirit will be truly missed by her three daughters, Mary (John) Boltezar of Coaldale, Liz Ferrero (Doug Millar) of Lethbridge, and Martha (Michael) Georgeson of Red Deer. Most especially grieved are her grandchildren Steven Ferrero of Edmonton, Michael Ferrero of Calgary, Adam Georgeson of College Station, Texas, Raymond (Christina) Georgeson of Red Deer, and Kevin, Mark and Christine Boltezar of Coaldale. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters Ivanka Jurtela, Ana Pus, and their families; the Jereb and Mrak families; as well as relatives in Slovenia.
Cecilia was predeceased by her husband Frank, three brothers, two sisters and an infant daughter.
Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Father John Kohler celebrant.
