JENNINGS
Feb. 13, 1932 – July 15, 2012
LORRAINE DELORES JENNINGS, beloved wife of the late Norton Jennings, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge, Ab. on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the age of 80 years. She fought a strong and courageous battle against ovarian cancer for a short period of time.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters; Paula (Mark Wuerfel) Vogt of Lethbridge and Rosanne (Gordon) Williams of Lethbridge, step-daughter Linda Butcher of Calgary. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Reed and Clay Vogt, Shania, Jade, Jena, McCoy, and Sheridan Williams, Corey Butcher and Cordena, Jesse and Colton Wuerfel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, brother and sister in laws.
Lorraine is pre-deceased by her parents Alfred and Olga Frostad, her sister Marjorie Fawdrey, brothers Lawrence, Lloyd and Fonce Frostad.
Lorraine was born and raised on the family farm near Congress, Sask. After completing school, she reluctantly left the family farm to attend Luther College where she obtained her teaching certificate in 1950. Lorraine went on to teach in numerous one room school houses across Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. After 12 years of teaching and traveling, Lorraine met and married Norton. After they settled in Lethbridge she taught at the old Westminster School on 13th Street North for a couple of years.
Lorraine decided staying at home to raise her children was far more important than pursuing her career.
After her children were grown, Lorraine returned to her profession as a kindergarten teacher at Aslan Day Care for many years. In 1988, Lorraine embarked in a business with her daughters for 13 years at Bells & Bows Wedding Shop.
Lorraine’s hobbies were few. In her later years, Lorraine found much joy watching her grandchildren grow, learn and succeed. Children were her life and she was loved by all and will be sadly missed by many.
The family of Lorraine Jennings would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Team, the staff at St. Michael’s, nursing staff at Chinook Regional Hospital and BJ for their wonderful care and support for mom during the last few months of her life. Thank you for making mom as comfortable as possible.
A service to celebrate Lorraine’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM, with Reverend Trevor Potter Officiating.
Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
In memory of Lorraine, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Health Centre 1400 - 9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 4V5.
