Daniel Joseph Royer May 21, 1926 - December 28, 2012 Daniel, (Dan - 86 years old), passed away peacefully in his home in Calgary, Alberta, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Under the loving care of his son-in-law Bruce Griffith- Cochrane, and with continuous visits from all of his family, Dan's life was filled with love and laughter right to the end.Dan, the middle of nine siblings, was born in the French Community of Beaumont, Alberta to Andre and Lucie Royer. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alice Royer, six children; Terry (Maureen), Diana (Richard) Bernard, Wynne (Gordon) Towers, Greg (Cindy), Randy (Jane) and Michelle (Bruce) Griffith-Cochrane, his 21 grandchildren, their spouses and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers; Victor (Beth) and Aurell (Laverne), two sisters; Denise Royer and Lorraine Gaumont and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert and three sisters; Evelyn, Estelle and Vivienne.Dan was a life long learner and entrepreneur who encouraged his offspring and influenced many with his warm smile, infectious laugh and magnetic personality. Although Dan’s many enterprises centered in Alberta they spread across Canada and into the United States involving all of his children in various capacities and partnerships. Dan experienced a variety of vocations including construction, military and business with a focus on hotels. DONNA FAYE WILDE April 8, 1947 - December 21, 2012We, the family of DONNA WILDE sadly announce her passing on December 21, 2012. Her brief battle with cancer started at the Lethbridge hospital and then ended in the Battlefords Union hospital. Donna was born and raised in the Battlefords. Her career as a realtor began in Saskatchewan then continued on in Lethbridge, AB, until her death. Donna was a generous, loving person who was respected by all who knew her. She was an avid gardener, and took pride in her yard and home. Donna was involved in the Rotary club and Bowling league. She had many interests such as traveling, golfing, politics, and the LDS church.She will be greatly missed by, her husband; Dexter Wilde and his children, Carrie, Jaime (Brett), Tammy (Mike) and their children (Hayden and Salomon), and Shian (Chelsey), and their children (Corbin and Hadley). DRAVLANDVERNON DRAVLAND of Lethbridge and Carbury North Dakota, devoted husband of Eunice Clara (Vinge) Dravland passed away suddenly and peacefully on December 27th, 2012 at the age of 88 years.Vern served in the US Army during World War II aboard the Hospital Ship Dogwood. In 1969 he joined the Faculty of Education of the University of Lethbridge as Director of Educational Research. After his retirement, he returned to farming on the land homesteaded by his grandfather in Carbury.Besides his loving wife of 61 years, Vernon is survived by his son Jonas Eric, and daughter Elsa, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. He could always be counted on for a warm smile, a kind word or a gentle kiss on the hand. His generosity and loving spirit was only exceeded by his sense of humor, evidenced by his skill with the proper turn of a good Norwegian joke.He will be greatly missed. Euphemia "Effie" Mary Smith (Fraser)November 28, 1918 ~ December 26, 2012Effie, beloved wife, mother grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away on December 26, 2012 at the age of 94. Effie was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Effie met her husband Bernard in Brandon. They spent their first married years living across Canada while Bernard served in the RCAF. After Bernard came home from WWII, Bernard and Effie moved to the look out tower in Lovett, Alberta and then to the Smith family ranch north of Cowley. Effie loved life, her family, her friends, and her pets. While on the ranch, Bernard and Effie raised five children; Reg, Bernadine, Ted, Kathleen, and Dawn. Effie lost Bernard in September 1973 and remained on the ranch until 1978 when she moved to Pincher Creek. Effie met Bud Fraser while in Pincher Creek and they married in 1983. Effie lost Bud in November 1998. Effie is survived and lovingly remembered by her children; Reg (Arlene) Smith, Bernadine (Lloyd) Kappel, Ted (Heather) Smith, Kathleen (Les) Krasman and Dawn (Alan) Lundberg; twelve grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer (Jamie), Robin (Emily), Joanna, Jorgen(Jen), Kerry (Dave), Cameron (Jana), Rory (Jodi), Kimberley (Joe), Alana (Kirk), Bernie (Lindsay) and Carla (Richard) and three great grandchildren; Emma, Hugh, and Abbie. GORUKLINDA CATHERINE GORUK, beloved wife of Bill and mother of Christopher and Gina, passed away suddenly at the Foothills hospital on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the age of 54, with her family at her side.Linda was born in Lethbridge on October 5, 1958 and spent much of her early life in Taber where she met the love of her life, Bill. They married and lived in Lethbridge where they raised their two children together. At the time of her passing Linda was the Early Learning Coordinator at Ecole St. Mary where she shared her passion and enthusiasm for teaching. Linda enjoyed golfing, traveling, taking walks and spending time curled up with a good book. TAKACSApril 26, 1928-December 20, 2012STEVE JOHN TAKACS, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the age of 84 years and will be sadly missed by his family.He is survived by his son Steve Takacs (Sylvia) of Port Coquitlam, BC; sister Ann Panes, nephew Stephen Panes, niece Kimberley Hanney (Andrew) and their children Madyson, Carsen and Lucas.Steve was born in Totszerdahely, Hungary, and immigrated to Canada with his mother in 1938 to join his father and become a Canadian citizen. They came to Nobleford, AB and a year later moved to Picture Butte. Steve enlisted with the army in Vancouver in 1951 and was stationed in Chilliwack, BC. As a member of 23rd Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers, he served in the Korean War. Upon his return from the war he took over his father's farm land, where he both farmed and bought and sold cattle, until his retirement. During his early years before joining the army, he worked in the bush near Revelstoke, helped build the Three Sisters Dam in Canmore, and was a cowboy on the Copithorne Ranch near Cochrane. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. An avid curler, he won many trophies. Violet Striemer (Big Bull)It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, grand-mother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend, Violet Theresa Striemer (Big Bull) born in Brocket, Alberta on May 9th 1944. She entered Heaven’s gates on December 28th, 2012.The wake service will be held on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 beginning at 5:00 pm at the home of Mills and Jacqueline Big Bull. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Brocket, AB the following day on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 at 11:00 am with Father Freddy Valdivia, celebrant.Be still and know that I am God.
