KIESSLING
MRS. MARIA KIESSLING (nee Griefenstein) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Kurt Kiessling, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the age of 79 years, on their wedding anniversary.
Maria was born in Neu Sivac Yugoslavia, in a German farming community. She immigrated to Canada with her daughter a year after her husband came. Maria and Kurt spent some time in the United States, but returned to Winnipeg, Canada until Kurt’s passing. She then relocated to Lethbridge, a place that Maria had visited and fell in love with, and was joined here by her daughter Wanda and her American son-in-law Ken, who came to Lethbridge to allow Maria to remain in her home, surrounded by the love of her family, until her passing. Though Maria had avariety of occupations, her greatest pride was in being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Through the years her favorite hobbies were bowling, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. She quietly made friends and was a perfect example of love, patience, kindness, humility, and selflessness. Her sweet presence will be sorely missed.
Maria is survived by her daughter Wanda (Kenneth) Young, her grandchildren Ian (Jessica) Payne and Daniel Payne, great-grandchildren Seth Furtado, Brandon and Jordan Payne, her sisters Elisabeth Geiser and Kathy Eckert, as well as nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her loving husband Kurt, Maria was predeceased by her parents Friedrich and Elisabeth (nee Aulenbach) Greifenstein, and brothers Adam Greifenstein and Phillip Greifenstein.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at MARTIN BROTHERS CHAPEL OF PEACE in Mountain View Cemetery, 1210 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge.
Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Nemeth, Alexander Stephen, W.O., C.D., 82, of North Grant, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, passed away on September 1, 2012, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Raymond, Alberta, he was a son of the late Alexander and Sarah (Tassi) Nemeth.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He also worked for 17 years with the Department of Fisheries. His favourite hobby was restoring military vehicles and weapons, of which he had a large collection. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his daughter, Joan (Melvyn) Currie, Middleton; sons, Carl, Indian Brook, Ron (Deborah), Pinevale, Gordon, Tampa, FL, Bruce, Antigonish; brother William, Raymond, AB; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Kelly, and sisters, Elizabeth Laczko and Helen Nemeth.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. A reception for family and friends will be held at a later date.

MATT THYS passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31st at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Trudy, daughters Catherine and Marianne, godson Mark Waage (Sharlene) and their boys, granddaughter Julia, niece Terry Noss (Don), brother Jack Thys (Janice), sister Mary Camp (Hank), sister-in-law Lisa Waage(John) and brother-in-law Helmut Waage (Jan) and other numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Theodore, father, Theodore and mother, Theresa. Matt's love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew him. His unique sense of humor, contagious laugh and joy of life will live on after him. He had a natural ear for music and played many different instruments, entertaining many over the years. He will be greatly missed.
At Matt's request, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life.

WALE, William Henry
November 21, 1952 – August 29, 2012
William Henry Wale, beloved husband of Carol of Claresholm, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the age of 59 years.
Besides his loving wife Carol, Bill will be remembered by his four step children, Corey (Chris), Mindy (James), Jason (Amanda) and Larry (Steph); grandchildren, Em, Haylee, Kee-ana, Wyatt, Kyla, Chase, Cedie and Hayden as well as cousins, Tammy (Jim) Jensen and son Tyler, and Vanessa (Shane) Koshney and their children, Ryan and Dan. Bill will also be remembered by family in England, Aunt Betty; cousins, Linda, Margaret and families and Richard and Stephanie Lord and sons, Michael (Nicole) and David. He was predeceased by his parents William and Elizabeth (Maude), and cousins, Geoff and Jessie Godley.
Bill came to Canada in 1977 and worked at the Claresholm Care Centre as a papered Chef. He later worked at Spyhill, Grand Cache and the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, where he was promoted to Deputy Director of Operations. Bill was involved with government services for thirty-five years. He also served as President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #41 from 1998 to 1999, 2001 to 2002 and 2011 to 2012. His greatest passion was going to Las Vegas and playing darts.

WALTER JACOB RUFF
A very special husband, father, grandfather and friend Walter Jacob Ruff, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Nursing Home on August 30, 2012 after a lengthyillness.
He is predeceased by his wife Florence, two brothers, Alfred and Edwin Ruff, three sisters, Martha Fredricks, Helen Schmidt and Leonora Myers, infant son Joseph and granddaughter
Kaitlan. He is the loving father of son Blair (Laurie) Ruff of Lethbridge; and daughters Denise Kaupp, Leslie (Joe) Gatner, Carroll Moore of Lethbridge; and Lenore (Morgan) Rockenbach of Wrentham.
He leaves to mourn his five children, nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Sol Ruff of Medicine Hat, and sister Frieda Heck of Kindersley, Saskatchewan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wally was born on November 11, 1928 and grew up on a farm in Burstall, Saskatchewan.
Wally graduated from U. of Calgary with a Bachelor of Education, and from Eugene, Oregon with a Masters of Education. He was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus.
Wally enjoyed a long career as an administrator and educator until he retired in 1982. He taught school in Brooks, Ezikom, and completed his teaching career in Lethbridge. He taught at St. Francis Boys School (where he loved coaching basketball & football), Assumption School as vice-principal and lastly at St. Basil’s School as principal.
Wally became principal of St. Basil’s school in 1970, he spoke fondly of his time there, and was instrumental in the establishment of a math lab and of the intramural program.
He enjoyed his trips to Hawaii to visit his daughter, Carroll, with his wife Florence. The vacations and outings with the motor home and boat were highlights for his family.
During his retirement he enjoyed curling, golfing, playing bridge, helping his five children, and one of his favourite activities with his grandchildren was playing cribbage.
