MARGARET JEAN HINMAN, beloved wife of the late Donald Hinman, passed away peacefully at Extendicare in Lethbridge on Thursday, April 5th, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
Born in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Jean passed away at the end of a life well lived.
In between she was a public health nurse, a career that spanned 40 years which was as diverse as the persons she cared for and comforted. Her career took her to the most southern and northern regions of Canada to work with her much loved first nation’s people.
Mom married our father Donald A. Hinman in 1952, which embarked her on a grand adventure. Moms amazing life included lunch with Prince Charles and living and traveling around the world. She was an accomplished singer, loved coffee, bagpipes, ice cream, beautiful shoes, bridge, dinners with family and friends. Mom loved life; she taught us when life was difficult just “Keep Calm and Carry On”.
Mom leaves us to follow her spirit of being engaged fully in life and all that it offers.
She’ll be missed by her family, daughter Julia (Richard), and sons Skyler (Alice) and Rob.
Jean was particularily proud and delighted to be around her four wonderful grandsons: Steen, Jeff, Eric, and Connor. Jean is survived by her sister Betty (Lucien) and two nephews Bruce (Tracy) and Allan, nieces Mary Jean Furman and Hilary Furman.
Our family would like to acknowledge the dedication and caring provided by Dr. J Meyer, Dr. A Coma and colleagues of the Family Medical Clinic. Nap and Lou loved the trailering life and spent 18 winters in Arizona. Nap loved life! His deep love for his wife and his family has given us many fond memories and set a standard by which we try to live. A quote from his granddaughter exemplifies his life: “You are one of my hero's...not because you won many trophies, fought in the war and did many other noble deeds, but because you are who you are. You have set the bar very high for the men in our lives and even if they never reach the standard that is you, we will forever be grateful for the fact that you showed us what a real man looks like.”
Honouring Nap's request, there will be no funeral service. If you desire, donations may be made in Nap's name to the Lethbridge Food Bank 1016-2 Ave South Lethbridge, AB T1J 0C9. Nap always said that no man, woman or child should ever go hungry in this great country that we live in.
