DYCK
Dec. 20, 1913 to Dec. 31, 2010
Peter Frank Dyck peacefully went to be with the Lord at Good Samaritan’s West Highlands on Friday, December 31st at the age of 97 years. Peter is the beloved husband of 67 years to Lydia, loving father and grandfather to James (Linda) Dyck of Pincher Creek: (Leanne (Gord) Neufeld, Michael (Courtney) & Kerry (Shawn) Mierau); Linda Jane (David) Roberge of Maple Ridge: (Bradley & Jolynn); Norma Lynn Gibbon of Lethbridge: (Chase(Renée) & Paige); Philip (Mary) Dyck of Lethbridge (Jesse & Carly); Grant (Roxanne) Dyck of Strathmore (Tiffany);Lloyd Dyck of Coaldale; and Leslie (Pat) Dyck of Lethbridge (Andrew & Amy), and seven great grandchildren. Peter is survived by his brothers John (Erna) Dyck of Coaldale, Abe Dyck of Medicine Hat, Nick Dyck of Pincher Creek, sister-in-law Judith Dyck of Pincher Creek, brother-in-law Henry Kroeker of Lethbridge, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Doll of Victoria, Anne (Paul) Krawec of Cochrane, and Gerry Dyck of Coaldale, numerous nieces and nephews.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Franz & Maria Dyck, his brothers Frank (Maria) Dyck, Henry Dyck, his sister Maria (Ed) Boehr, numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, and his son-in-law James Gibbon.
Peter was born in Ebenfeld, Slavgorod, Russia (Siberia); his family immigrated to Canada, arriving by boat in November 1926, travelling by CPR to Acme, Alberta. The family eventually settled in Coaldale where Peter was baptized in 1936, then met the love of his life and married Lydia Dyck on December 28, 1943. They lived in Coaldale until taking up farming in Pincher Creek in 1946. Here they raised their seven children, eventually retiring into town in 1974, and subsequently to Creekside Village in 1997. In 2007, Peter & Lydia took up residence at The View in Lethbridge and in March of 2009 both moved to Good Samaritan’s West Highlands, dad to assisted living and mom in the adjoining Life Lease from which she could go visit Peter every day.
Peter loved the Lord, his family and farming … indeed it was his memories that sustained him in the last years where he would often speak of the seeding and harvest, repairing equipment, chasing cows and always had words of wisdom and love for Lydia, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peter could build or fix almost anything, volunteered his time in the communities in which he lived and to MDS ... he always wore a warm ready smile, loved to travel abroad in his retirement years and especially loved to soak up the sun in Arizona where he and Lydia wintered for some 20 years.
Peter was a hard worker who always had a kind word, was a very strong but gentle and patient man, with a keen sense of humour, and who will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of sharing from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 327 – 10 St. S. Lethbridge, AB.
