WICKEND
KENNETH LARRY WICKEND, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the age of 60 years.
Ken started his life with a little bit of fanfare – he was the New Year’s Baby of 1952. He continued his life as the middle of three – an older brother and younger sister.
During his school years Ken played saxophone in the school band, as well as in the Kiwanis Band. Many good times were had travelling with the band. In July of 1970 he travelled to the World’s Fair in Tokyo, Japan with a group of high school students. This was a trip that would never be forgotten. After high school, Ken attended the Lethbridge Community College where he completed a course in Radio Arts. Even though he did not pursue employment in this field, he thoroughly enjoyed his time there and the friendships that were made. Flying became Ken’s passion and after college he started taking flying lessons and obtained his license. Around the same time, he started a promising career with a surveying company, only to have it cut short by a life-altering accident in March of 1977. Ken faced many challenges in his life, and conquered many. He became the owner of his own home after which he acquired a puppy name “Boots,” who was his constant companion for many long years. He developed many loyal friendships and enjoyed his daily coffee sessions at Bully’s.
His father, Gordon, his mother, Alice, as well as his furry companion, Boots, predeceased Ken. He is survived by his brother John (Sandra), sister Sherryl (Peter) Kerber, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the COAST HOTEL, Southern Room, 526 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Lyle Pennington, Master of Ceremonies.
In memory of Ken, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
