Grace Elizabeth (nee Mitchell) SPENCER
SPENCER, Grace Elizabeth (nee Mitchell) - At the Village of Glendale Crossing nursing home, dear Gracie passed away peacefully on August 14th, with Family by her side. She was in her 92nd year. Grace was pre-deceased by Charlie, her loving husband of 66 years, her parents Alice and Lindsay, and her sister Dorothy. Grace's greatest joy was her Family - her 5 children: Bob (Leslie), Susan (Mike), Doug (Sergio), John (Debbie), and Stephen (Susan), her grandchildren: Melinda (David), Christopher (Christine), Marc and Lindsay (Greg), and her beloved great-grand- children: Kaitlin, Connor, Mairi and Callum. Last week, Lindsay and Greg announced that their expected child will be named August Grace, if it is a girl. Grace loved entertaining and excelled at tennis and bridge. She enjoyed preparing Sunday night roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinners. Grace was the undisputed Yahtzee champ of 64 Bloomfield Drive, with a pocketbook full of toonies to prove it. When recently asked which were the best years of her life, Grace mentioned the three years of sunshine, tennis and parties in Fort Monroe, Virginia when Charlie was the Canadian Liaison Officer at U.S. Continental Army Command. Grace is survived by her brother Lindsay, many nieces and nephews and her dear friends, Ria and Marlies. She will be lovingly remembered for her twinkling blue eyes, her beautiful smile, her witty sense of humour and her kindness to others. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the expert and compassionate caregivers at Glendale Crossing. Cremation has taken place. Respecting Grace's wishes, there will be no funeral. A celebration of Grace's life will be held in October. In lieu of flowers to honour Grace, please consider an act of kindness or volunteer service for Hospice London or a Long Term Care residence.

HUBKA, Rosella
March 5, 1925 – August 15, 2012
Rosella Hubka passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm.
Rosella is survived by her daughters, Chris Haydon of Calgary, Pat (Norm) Canuel, Colleen (Rick) Penner both of Claresholm and son Joe Izsak (Carol) of Lethbridge; and her twelve grandchildren, Michele (Rick) Ito, Rob (Joni) Izsak, Cathy (Dave) Miedema, Darlene (Mark) Riley, Anita (Ted) Cisecki, Paula (Mike) Henke, Léo Canuel, Justin Canuel, Bobbie-Jo Penner, Darcie Penner, Jay (Ceri) Penner and John Penner. She was the proud great-grandma to Kole, Courtney, Taya, Trysten, Takoda, Trent, Curtis, Avery, Nathan, Josh, Liam, Jayna, Mark and Riley. She is also survived by her brother Ed O’Kane of Elk Point, her sister Mary Demers of Kamloops, BC and sister-in-law Beulah Hubka of Claresholm. Rosella was predeceased by her husband Bob (Robert) July 17, 2009; her sons, Donald, Allan, and Leslie; grandson Michael Izsak; son-in-law Ron Haydon; sister Catherine Flagel and brothers, Joe and Jim O’Kane.
Our mom was born in Bethel, Minnesota. She was very proud of her American and Irish roots. She was raised at Elk Point, AB. She came to southern Alberta in 1945 to work for Frank and Helen Hubka as their “Hired Girl”. It was there that she met Frank’s little brother, Bob. They courted and were married on November 19, 1946. As Mom always said….”and I have been working for the Hubkas ever since!”
Mom was involved with Girl Guides for over thirty years. She really enjoyed taking young girls out camping. She was a Charter member of CWL and a Lionette member in Carmangay. Both Mom and Dad were very involved in various community groups. They were faithful members of Christ the King parish in Claresholm. Mom was quite competitive, she loved to curl but bonspieling was far more fun.
Mom always loved the farm. She was Dad’s best right hand. She could milk cows, drive truck and even ran the combine for many years.
Mom was always ready to go on a trip, she and Dad travelled extensively. They went on two cruises, toured the Orient and spent several winters in Arizona. They also put many miles on their motor home.
Mom always loved having all her kids home all at the same time. She was always very interested in what all of us were doing and was our biggest cheerleader. We feel specially blessed by the lessons she taught us about courage, love, determination and enthusiasm.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre for their dedicated support and care Mom received over the years and special thanks to Dr. Gish.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Christ the King Catholic Church (344 – 50th Avenue, Claresholm) on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 7:00 P.M.
