AIGI SHIGEHIRO
(1925-2012)
Mr. Aigi Shigehiro of Blairmore, Alberta passed away on March 18, 2012 at his residence in the York Creek Lodge at the age of 87 years.
Aigi was born on February 3, 1925 in White Rock, British Columbia, to proud parents, Otoichi and Asano Shigehiro. He and his thirteen siblings quickly understood the importance of family and that hard work and determination can overcome most difficulties in this world. He was a highly intelligent man blessed with a compassionate heart and a strong character. He caught the attention and was fondly regarded by a lovely young woman, Yasuko Koyanagi, and on December 12, 1953, they pledged their love in marriage.
Aigi and Yasuko moved to the Crowsnest Pass, Alberta and raised their four children. He always worked hard to provide for his family and gained employment in the logging industry. He was considered the best sawyer on his crew but when he was 42 years of age, he was forced to abandon this type of arduous work after a serious injury. His incredible character was never more evident when he made the decision to return to school and receive his high school diploma and certification within the accounting industry which allowed him to form his own accounting practice.
Aigi was truly an inspiration to his family and this community; he was an active member of the Rocky Summit Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch, Acre Preceptory, Crowsnest Pass Shrine Unit, Lethbridge Shrine Unit and Al Azhar Shriners, in addition to being a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was an avid volunteer in the Pass and canvassed willingly for various charities. It gave him great pleasure to be a life-time member of Crowsnest Pass Golf Course, in view of his passion for golf, which he played as often as possible wherever possible. Aigi also loved fishing, curling, socializing with friends and was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his son, Craig (Wendy) Shigehiro; his daughters, Michi (Dave) McClung and Valerie Shigehiro; his son-in-law Bob (Mo) Brokofsky; his grandchildren, Dana (Troy) Anthis, Ken (Tammy) Brokofsky, Nicki McClung, Robert McClung, Kelly Zack and Meredith Doyle; his great granddaughter Kaycee Brokofsky; his brothers, Ted (Eldean) Shigehiro, James Shigehiro, Haruo Shigehiro and Mas (Sandy) Shigehiro; his sisters, Chick (Aki) Konno, Elsie (Ken) Sasaki, Rose (Sho) Nagata, Ruth Nagata, Emi (Del) Halterman, Sumi Kanomata, Peggy Murdock and Chris (Bill) Daniels; his sister-in-law, Mae Shigehiro; his brothers-in-law, Terry (Kaz) Koyanagi, Herby (Jean) Koyanagi and Roy Tatsumi; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and his special friend, Helen Ikebuchi.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yasuko Shigehiro (nee: Koyanagi); his precious daughter, Sandy Brokofsky; his parents Otoichi Shigehiro and Asano Shigehiro (nee: Morikawa); his brother Kyoto Shigehiro; several in-laws and extended family members.
The funeral service honouring Aigi’s life will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (13126-21 Ave.) in Blairmore with Rev. Janni Belgum officiating. A special tribute will be provided by the Masonic Lodge delegation to honour their fellow mason. Interment will follow at the New Blairmore Union Cemetery.
