ATKINSON, Lois Edith
We are sad to announce the passing of Lois Atkinson, beloved wife of the late Edward Atkinson, after a short illness on February 2, 2012 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Lois Edith (McQuestion) was born on August 29, 1931 in Chalk River, Ontario. She attended school in Chalk River and North Bay. Lois joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and met and married Edward Atkinson on June 5, 1954.
Ed and Lois eventually moved to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1973 when Ed retired from the armed forces. Lois worked at the unemployment office until Ed’s death in 1983, then she retired.
Lois became very involved in the LSCO over the years, where she was on the Board of Directors for many of those using her great organizational skills for many activities at the centre. She also helped form the walking group there and enjoyed many outings with them. Lois enjoyed many days at the Fritz Sick Pool with her group at the aqua-fit program. It was there at the senior centre and the pool that she made many of her life long friends.
She is survived by sisters, Isabel Brown of Pembroke, Ont. and Sonia Mulloy of Watertown, New York. Lois is also survived by her brothers-in-law Don (Marie) Atkinson (Ottawa) and Bob Atkinson (Saskatoon). She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be missed by her “extended family”, Jill Thiessen, Cliff (Joanne) Stroh, Kena (Dave) Beland, Donna (Gerry) Herman and all their families along with many of her dear friends here in Lethbridge.
She was predeceased by parents, Edith and Victor McQuestion, husband Edward, and four brothers, Earl, Leslie, Ken and Floyd. There will be no service by her request. Friends are invited to a Tea held in Lois’ honor at the LSCO on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
