BERRY JAMES THORBURN
April 11, 1960 - April 30, 2012
BERRY passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the age of 52 years, after a courageous struggle with cancer. At his request there will be no service. Instead his family and friends gathered with him to celebrate his final birthday on April 11th. In his final days he was surrounded by the many people who loved him and will miss his smile and sense of humor. Berry will be greatly missed by his special friends Gary Klein and Maureen Hepher.

BLACK WATER
CHRISTINE AGNES BLACK WATER (BEAVERS) - IIYISTAPAINIHKIAAKII (WALKING AWAY WOMAN), November 8, 1949 – April 30, 2012, beloved wife of Ross Black Water Sr., was peacefully called by our creator with family at her side on Monday April 30, 2012. She was born November 8, 1949 at the Blood Indian Hospital. She was born to the late Rufus Piinakoyim and Christine Namaakii (Many Fingers) Goodstriker. Christine was the second youngest of four children Wilton (Evelyn) Goodstriker, Joyce Goodstriker and the late Lorraine Goodstriker. Following the passing of her mother, Christine was raised by her father Rufus. Rufus remarried Celina Brewer in 1958 and had six children; Rufus Jr. Goodstriker, Francis (Godfrey) Weasel Head, Kathleen Goodstriker, Rochelle (Corey) Pace and Leon (Yvette) Goodstriker, also raised with her family as siblings were Stanley (Joanne) Scout, the late Tyrone Eagle Speaker, George Jr. (Toni) Goodstriker, Alvin (Simone) Eagle Child.
Christine met her husband Ross in the late 1960’s and on January 31, 1970 they were married. Together they were blessed with three children; Ross Jr. (Lora) Black Water, Jody Black Water and the late Cassandra Black Water; nine Grandchildren Josie (AJ), Sheree, Quindy, Kassandra, Reynold, Nathel, Jamelyn, Tanner and Eberle and one great grandson Presley.
Christine’s maternal clan was Mamioyiiksi and her parental clan was Ni’taitsskaiksi she was raised traditionally but was also a believer in the Catholic faith and at the time of her passing was still an active member of the Iitskinayiiksi society.
Christine received her education at St. Mary’s Residential School, Alberta Vocational Centre and Lethbridge Community College.
Christine excelled in whatever sport she played, she was also a barrel racer but what she enjoyed the most was working with her father’s race horses. She often travelled with her father to help care for the horses. Her father use to run a camp at Crossbell and she, along with her husband Ross and the late Tyrone Eagle Speaker would herd the horses to Crossbell for her father.
Christine enjoyed mixing business with pleasure with her love of cooking and socializing with friends. She worked as a cook at Kernel Belcher Hospital, Iitoyopi, Blood Indian Hospital, Red Crow College, and Kainai High School. She was also employed with the Blood Tribe Lands Department. Christine had a kind heart and shared her life with people from all walks of life. Everyone who knew her will never forget her trade mark humour and unforgettable laugh.
Christine was a humble person and always undoubtedly thought of everyone she met as her friend. For this reason, the family requested not to list any honorary pallbearers as everyone was her friend. Christine is leaving behind a lasting legacy of kindness and hope that everyone she touched would carry that same quality in memory of her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bester, Blood Tribe and Cardston EMS, and the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Lethbridge Chinook Hospital. Also, the family would like to express their appreciation to all who have been so helpful in our time of need.
A Wake Service will be held at the Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Friday May 4, 2012 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, Blood Reserve on Saturday May 5 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Pawel Andrasz officiating. Interment to follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.

1920 - 2012
Lena Evelyn Dunn, beloved wife of the late Dale Dunn, passed away in
Lethbridge surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the age of
91 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland
Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, May 6, 2012 between 7:00
P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church,
320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr.
Ray Speaker officiating. Burial to follow at the Vauxhall Cemetery.

Lena is survived by her children Sharon (Joe) Such of Carmangay, Sheila
(Gail) Alcock of Rainier, Nadine (Roger) Skretting of Vauxhall, Danny Dunn
of Vauxhall and Boyd (Sharon) Dunn of Vauxhall; nine grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Mildred Findlay of
Lethbridge, Jennie Brown of Lethbridge, Joyce (Jack) Shendruk of Coaldale,
Dolly (Maurice) Crabb of Coaldale, Bud (Marilyn) Monson of Coaldale and
Norma (Bob) MacDonell of Cornwall, Ontario; in-laws Ruth Matthews, Leonard
(Vicki) Dunn, Ken (Peggy) Dunn, Vern (Yvonne) Dunn and Joye Johnson as well
as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Dale; parents Alma and Oscar Monson;
infant granddaughter Frances Clare Dunn and grandson Earl Alcock.
Lena was born on December 22, 1920 at Turin where she grew up. She married
Dale Dunn on June 3, 1942. About 1953 they moved to their farm south of
Retlaw were they farmed and raised their family. In 1975 they retired to
Vauxhall where they were both active in the community, especially the Royal
Canadian Legion. Lena was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary, where she
held many positions including more than one term as president. After Dale’s
passing in 2004, Lena remained in her home in Vauxhall. In 2009 she moved to
the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale where she has resided until her passing.

FOLSOM
John REID FOLSOM (JACK), 79 passed away May 2, 2012 at his home in American Fork, Utah. He was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada on December 16, 1932 to Henry and Ruth Folsom.
Jack was raised in Hill Spring, Alberta, Canada. He worked on the family farm where he developed a love for work and agriculture. At the age of 15, Jack moved to Spokane, Washington with his family. He attended Central Valley High School and graduated early to attend Brigham Young University. He began his selling career in high school with newspaper subscriptions and then sold Rena Ware cookware in college. This took Jack to many different cities in the US and Canada. He married Carol Jean Montague on February 6, 1953 in the Manti, Utah temple. Together they had 6 children in 5 different cities.
Jack settled his family in Southern Alberta. They enjoyed years of living in the mountains with cattle, horses, and wild animals. They also enjoyed living in Hill Spring, Alberta where Jack worked the farm and started selling farms and ranches throughout Alberta and Australia. He was very successful and gained quite a reputation in real estate sales and land development.
Jack was a member of the LDS church and served in many capacities. He shared Books of Mormon everywhere he went. In 1997 Jack and Carol served a successful mission to Singapore and Malaysia. His wife Carol passed away after 56 years of marriage. He became reacquainted with Colene Allred Oviatt, a former schoolmate from Hill Spring, Alberta, Canada, and married her in 2010. They spent two happy years together. Jack was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and cherished his family relationships.
Jack is survived by his wife Colene, children; Jim (Lynn), Greg (Jackie), Jeff (Angie), Dawna Baugh (Craig), Elaine Hudson (Jim), and Gary (Tina), 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, three brothers (Ted, Kelly, Terry), and one sister (Merilyn Molene). He was preceded in death by his first wife Carol, his parents and two sisters.
Friends may meet the family at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Sunday May 6th, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. or at the Church on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hill Spring, Alberta on Monday, May 7th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with Bishop Cannon Smith Officiating. Interment in the Hill Spring Cemetery.
