Sarah Marjorie (Marj) Tennant
September 1st 1927 to April 21st 2012
Marj was born in Lingdale Yorkshire on September 1st 1927, the third child of Henry (Harry) Mudd and Ivy May Hadfield. Her siblings were Ivy Constance (Con) Windross of Manchester England; Henry Vincent (Vin) Hadfield – deceased; and Mabel (Mae) Brown of Victoria. Ivy will always miss her “Midge”.
Marj survived the chaos of World War II England to fall in love and marry Theodore (Ted) Edward Jones. She arrived in Halifax, one of many war brides, on the 22nd of March 1946 and took a long and difficult train trip to Edmonton. In Edmonton she welcomed the arrival of her children Kathryn-Mary Gillespie, Ken (Mary) Jones, Mavis (Peter, deceased) Pastoor and Gwynnyth (Dave) Dupuis. She ended her relationship with Ted in 1953 and moved to Lethbridge Alberta to join her sister and parents. There she met John (Jack) Bertram Tennant and they married on June 1st 1957 and were happily married until his death on January 5th 1993. They welcomed 2 more children Alison (Gavin Burnett) Tennant and Keith (Margaret) Tennant. In 1994 she married an old friend Wallace (Wally) Jaeck. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Joyce Lam, Alaina Gillespie, Karen Gillespie, Michael Jones, Margareta Jones, Jade Coslovi, Chad Coates, Joe Hubbs, Heather Burnett, Hannah Tennant and Alex Tennant and 11 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous neices and nephews.
She loved being known as the cake lady and enjoyed the many encounters with friends, who will remember being taught by her, having their wedding cake made by her, or receiving one of her baking or chocolate packages. She was extremely proud of teaching her culinary skills at the Lethbridge Community College for almost 30-years.
Charity was also a large part of her life. Marj could not say no to anyone and was always looking for opportunities to help those who needed it. There were many adopted family members that Marj took under her wing.
Marj was a strong and caring woman with a brilliant smile and a kind word for all she met. Her light shone brighter than most and those who loved her will miss the direct glow. She will be missed.
