U18 boys win silver medal
Lethbridge
The Lethbridge Football Club U18 boys team returned home from a road trip north with medals last weekend.
The LFC squad headed to Edmonton for the Power Play Cup 2012 Saturday and Sunday, winning the silver medal.
Taking on the Fort St. John Northern Strikers in the silver medal game, Lethbridge notched a 7-3 win to take the runner-up spot.
Corey Frecka scored three goals in the silver medal-clinching win, while Mason Schlicter, Easton Beaulieu, Brady Matson and Kory Johnson added singles.
The U18 team started the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Xtreme as Schlichter supplied the lone Lethbridge goal.
Lethbridge rebounded in their second game and earned a berth in the silver medal game thanks to a 3-0 win over Vegreville as Frecka, Robert Axten and Schlicter scored for the locals.
Austin Paiha was in goal for all three games.
LFC U12 girls in action
Lethbridge
The Lethbridge Football U12 girls took the pitch last weekend.
On Saturday Lethbridge Team Red lost 7-2 to Xpress Lube. Taryn Huisman and Amy Akayama were the goal-scorers for the LFC, while Payton Viney and Drew Dortman were in goal.
In other action Saturday, Lethbridge Team White beat VisitLethbridge.com. Akayama had three goals, while Amy Layton had two. Hailey Schneider, Hailey Van Maanen and Viney chipped in with one each.
Picture Butte gets road win
Stirling
The Picture Butte High School boys basketball team earned a road win during Deep South Basketball Conference action Monday night.
Taking on Stirling, Picture Butte got a 26-point performance from Curtis Elaschuk on their way to an 81-61 win.
Teammate Ryan Nummi had 18 points, while Desmond Gerstenberger chipped in with 13.
For Stirling, Tom Byam led the way with 19 points. Teammates Zac Edwards and Justin Maynes had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
In the junior varsity game Stirling erased a 36-34 halftime deficit and rallied to an 85-63 win.
Bruce Ascione-Edwards led Stirling with 32 points, while teammate Jett Stef had nine.
Jan Fourie was Picture Butte's top scorer with 19 points, Ryan Kiczula had 17 and Broek Murray hit for 11.
