LETHBRIDGE HERALD
A woman who went too far to protect herself from being assaulted by another woman will spend some time behind bars.
Tracy Many Shots pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lethbridge provincial court to one count of assault with a weapon and was sentenced to 45 days in jail for stabbing a woman with whom she had been drinking Jan. 9.
Court was told the two woman began to argue after Many Shots decided to leave the other woman's residence. However, the other woman didn't want her to go and a struggle ensued. At one point the other woman pushed Many Shots to the ground.
Many Shots picked up a knife lying nearby and the two women began struggling again, during which the other woman was stabbed in the chest.
Although defence lawyer Claudia Connolly pointed out the stabbing victim was actually the aggressor, Judge Gregory Maxwell said Many Shots' response was excessive.
Because Many Shots has already spent a month in pre-trial custody, only 15 days remains of her 45-day sentence.
