Lethbridge public school trustees will soon be mulling over all of the suggestions that resulted from the district's fifth annual town hall meeting held Monday evening.
"All of the suggestions will be reviewed by the district community engagement committee and then also by the board as a whole in terms of planning for next year," said superintendent Barry Litun.
The roughly 170 participants were asked to come up with ideas as to how trustees could best receive feedback and suggestions from the community.
"There was strong consensus that trustees be available for discussions and interactive events. Specifically there was some thought to having a school council meeting to be held just for trustees to be able to respond to suggestions or to hear suggestions," Litun said. "One of the things trustees want to do is engage in more ground-level conversations with community people."
Another suggestion was that trustees should use social and traditional media to inform the public more about things going on in the district and to get feedback.
Students at the town hall indicated they wanted to know more about the trustee role. That fits in with the board's goal of informing the public about the role of a trustee so that ultimately more people will be interested in running in the next municipal election.
Town hall results will be posted on the district's website early next week and emailed to participants.
