The Government of Alberta and the City of Lethbridge are celebrating the approval of an additional
$10 million in provincial funding for the Lethbridge Crossings Ice Complex project. Today’s announcement brings the total provincial commitment for this project to $25.8 million.

 “Our government is committed to building better communities,” said Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs, Greg Weadick, MLA for Lethbridge West. “By working together we can better support local priorities, including recreational facilities like this, which give Albertans a place to enjoy some exercise and fun with their families and neighbours.”
 "The Government of Canada is pleased to be investing up to $10 million in this important project,” said Jim Hillyer, Member of Parliament for Lethbridge. “Thanks to Canada’s Economic Action Plan, this new facility will strengthen the community by bringing families and friends together, as we focus on promoting growth, job creation and economic prosperity across Canada.”
 The Crossings Ice Complex project includes a twinned ice arena and a 10-sheet curling rink to replace the 64 year old curling facility within the Civic Centre. The arena portion of the project will have two regulation-size ice rinks. The two new rinks will bring the City’s recreational arena total to seven.
 “This provincial support is a welcome announcement for our community,” says Mayor Rajko Dodic. “The City of Lethbridge consistently seeks to make the most of grants from other levels of government to provide facilities that enhance the quality of life in our city.”
 The project budget is $41.35 million. The Government of Canada has committed up to $10 million under the Building Canada Fund - Major Infrastructure Component. The Government of Alberta is providing, a matching $10-million grant from the province, plus $15.8 million from the provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI), and the City of Lethbridge is providing $5.55 million.
 The facility will be constructed in West Lethbridge in the Crossings subdivision, adjacent to the West Lethbridge high schools and public library. Design work is underway and is expected to be complete by summer 2013, with construction expected to begin later the same year. The facility is scheduled to be complete in December 2015 with full programming starting in fall 2016.
