Letter to the Editor
I am writing because I am concerned about the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan phase 2 (Alberta Land use).
As an Albertan, I am disappointed that all Albertans have been uninformed and misinformed about what the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan is. It is about Alberta land use and the plans to make drastic changes that will affect what a large majority of Albertans enjoy most - the freedom to use provincial land for their enjoyment. Under the plan, random camping will be lost forever and public land will be dramatically closed. Off-road motorized vehicles like quads, motorcycles, etc. will be confined to a very small area with massive restrictions.
The people of Alberta and businesses affected are now quietly being informed of the millions of dollars they stand to lose in lost sales of trailers, bikes, camping equipment, etc. I myself have notified as many businesses in our area already and am pleased that they are now taking action in hopes to reverse what may mean the end of our freedoms that we now have.
Phase 3 of the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan will be in the provincial legislature in May 2013. And it is my hope that all Albertans educate themselves so they can understand this plan and have a say in what seems to be a very weak attempt at informing all of us of about its potential impact on our rights and freedoms.
