Early childhood focus should be technology-free

High-quality early childhood programs encourage learning through play-based programs. So what place does technology have in an early childhood classroom? There seems to be a new app every day that claims to enhance your child's cognitive skills in order for them to be ahead of their same-aged peers.

An alternative to swallowing fluoride

My wife cannot drink fluoridated water. It causes a reaction to her arthritis, with painful joint restrictions. She must drink fluoride-free bottled water. (However, she still absorbs the fluoride in the water as daily necessities of washing her hands, hair, cooking, cleaning, washing our dishes and bathing all contribute.

A tragic accident waiting to happen

A few years ago there was a pedestrian fatality on the west-bound ramp where traffic merges with the northbound flow on University Drive. Now the city is about to activate another pedestrian crossing at the intersection with Scenic Drive on the east side.

Why quit project if climate change is such a concern?

If those German scientists, and the German public, are so concerned about global warming, or now better known as "climate change," why then quit? You would think they would do everything in their power to find a solution.

Why is province advertising for private pipeline?

Regarding Keystone XL advertising by the Alberta government: Eight per cent pay rise for MLAs, budget cuts across the board for everyone else, no royalty increase, and we advertise for a private pipeline. New leisure centre should be top priority

Lethbridge city council is preparing to vote on the 2014-23 CIP Community Budget. We are writing because our "Play Local Lethbridge" community group believes strongly that a large multipurpose leisure centre should be the number-one priority of Lethbridge city council, specifically a leisure centre that includes an aquatic centre, indoor playground, fieldhouse, a food court as well as meeting rooms.

Politicians need to earn respect of citizens

Would it not be refreshing if politicians admitted to mistakes of the past? Own up, so to speak, so that we, the general public, can have a chance to hold the politician in higher regard. I personally have had enough of the condescending manner and dismissive way that they are treating the electorate.

Let's try to avoid depersonalizing one another

Recently I decided to fold our laundry while my wife was at work; having spent 25 years in the military, I believe I have some experience in this area! But this day was different: the clothes seemed to come alive, the socks appeared to leap out of the basket and the trousers seemed to march on the carpet! Please bear with me .

Rebranding the Pass, George Dawson-style

I did a double-take when first exposed to Crowsnest Pass's new brand, but decided to keep quiet. I thought the community, already suffering from advanced self-destruction, might crumble if so much as touched by another form of criticism. And so, with great resolve, I promised not to touch the new brand with a 10-foot pole.
