Letters to the Editor

Looking back at invasion of Iraq

It has been exactly 10 years since President G. W. Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq. I am surprised how little attention is paid to the anniversary. Perhaps it was such a colossal fiasco that nobody wants to remember. It cost more than $1 trillion which could be an origin of today's economic woes.

Kiwanis Festival an enjoyable experience

Last month I had the very good fortune to be involved with the Lethbridge Kiwanis Festival as an adjudicator for the band classes. From the initial email contact from Beth Cook, right through to my final sessions, I was treated with respect and consideration.

Fish and Game members slighted

As a city ratepayer, business owner, lifetime resident and avid voter, I feel singled out and definitely slighted by Faron Ellis' comments as printed in the Lethbridge Herald on Good Friday. It seems to me that Mr. Ellis has a personal agenda when it comes to the Lethbridge Fish and Game Association, which I am a proud member and active volunteer of.

Citizens urged to show support for diversity by wearing pink today

Day of Pink is Wednesday, April 10. Day of Pink is an international day against homophobic and transphobic discrimination and bullying in schools, workplaces and our communities.

People should have choice on fluoride in water

In reply to Mr. Gordon Manville's letter of March 23, I may say that if he cannot "stand reading this garbage" about fluoride, he has the choice to ignore it. Nobody forces him to read it. At least everybody has the choice and freedom to say what is in his or her mind.

Bottom line is flat tax unfair to large number of Albertans

In his letter of March 28 ("Progressive tax system wouldn't necessarily mean more tax revenue"), David Carpenter has confused two arguments made by David Campanella, Parkland Institute's Calgary research manager, in his SACPA talk of March 15.

'Responsible Change Budget' isn't being responsible

First, I would like to applaud Alison Redford and her government for the many forward-thinking insights laid out in the Responsible Change 2013 Budget. I think her commitment to early brain development programs, inclusion education, and small class-size initiatives will have long-reaching effects on our communities.

In defence of local defender of the arts

In the "Roasts and Toasts" column, under a shameful cloak of anonymity, a handful of local malcontents who - in Wilde's famous phrase - know the price of everything and the value of nothing, wish to put Mr. Ken Rogers in the pillory for his defence of the arts.

Budget cuts darkening future of university education

As a professor at the University of Lethbridge and a concerned citizen of Lethbridge, it is with dismay and a sense of foreboding that I have watched the Redford budget events unfold. Perhaps I have become too proud of what our little U has achieved in its short life, becoming this past year Canada's top research university in the primarily undergraduate class.

People should have freedom to refuse fluoridation

I have only been part of the anti-fluoride battle for a short time, and I am already tired of "science." This is not a scientific disagreement. This is a battle between right and wrong, Gordon, between good and evil.
