Letters to the Editor

Don't Tory attack ads constitute bullying?

At present our federal Conservative government is processing anti-bullying laws. At the same time we have been inundated with attack ads against the Liberal Party leader. I ask, is this not bullying? I notice in today's (April 26) Lethbridge Herald our prime minister calls it "partisan politics.

Stray bullets a matter for police, not city council

There are a lot of letters to the editor over the past months about the Lethbridge city council debating the shooting range next to the northside dog run. If anybody should be worried, it is the people walking their dogs with a steady crescendo of gunshots in the background.

Mismanagement burden borne by those without voice or influence

The financial mismanagement of the province is balanced on those who didn't cause it and are least able to have a voice to influence people in government, i.e. people with disability, seniors, students and most others with no voice. Art programs, libraries and other services are chopped, even if they have proven their worth time after time.

New streetlights are cause for concern

Although artificial light is a dominant feature of modern society, it's something most take for granted and rarely reflect on. For Lethbridge residents, that's about to change and for many it already has since ultra-bright white LED streetlights have begun springing up in our community.

Is it necessary to 'worship' the mayor?

Does Mr. Dodic really wish to be worshipped? Is this expression an archaism of 18th-century England? Let's move out of the ridiculous pageantry in city hall and update the title of the mayor to "Mayor.

Leaders asleep while colleges, universities are in crisis?

- British Columbia expansion of universities in Fraser Valley, Okanagan, Kamloops and Prince George; - Alberta announces Alison Transform: Alberta in reverse, deep cuts to colleges and universities.

New performing arts centre can shape community

As Lethbridge city council does the difficult work of setting priorities for capital improvements, Vox Musica Choral Society eagerly anticipates good news regarding a new Performing Arts Centre. Who is Vox Musica Choral Society? We are a registered society affiliated with Lethbridge's largest mixed choir of 80-100 singers performing each year.

Canadians being shortchanged

Corporate greed - outsourcing, causing loss of Canadian jobs, therefore less money going into government coffers for our services. Outsourced workers are working under the poorest conditions and for very little wages.

Let's avoid using any hurtful terms

A recent letter by Tyler Gschaid identifies the hurtful nature of several derogatory words and phrases used by some people when mentioning issues of sexual preference. I believe he has made his point well, but then I noticed that he refers the reader to a website which uses the term "homophobe.

City should do something about noise

Here comes spring again, the best of seasons for me. Except for one detail. I live 60 feet above the street on 6 Avenue South. An ideal location until the owners of motorcycles decide to ride. Most use the mufflers the machines come with but a significant number of them use the least effective equipment they can find for their machines.
