Mr. Stuart Dale Couillard, beloved husband of Mrs. Annamae Couillard of Bow Island, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 15th, 2010 at the age of 52 years. Stuart also leaves to cherish his memory his son, Carson; his daughters: Chenai (Malcolm) Ross and their children Brynnah, Arianna, and Graeme; Krystal (Jeremy) Eirich and their children, Maxx and Otto; and Ashley (Brent) Van Ham and their children, Tyson and Brooklyn; his mother, Terri (Claude) Bishop; his brothers, Dana (Brenda), Hal (Penny), and Craig (Kim); his step-brother, Pat (Jackie) Bishop; his step-sister, Valerie (Desmond) Regher; his father-in-law, Alvin Hoffman; his brother-in-law, Howie (Stephane) Hoffman; his sister-in-law, Donella (Scott) Davidson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Stuart was predeceased by his father, Judd, in 1980; and Carson's and Chenai's mother, Gayle Anne, in 1997. Stuart was born on July 24th, 1957 in Taber to M.M. "Judd" and Terri Couillard. He was raised and spent the majority of time in his home town of Bow Island. After a few years as a meat cutter, he opened Cannon's Drive-In in Bow Island which quickly became a legendary hamburger joint. In later years, Stuart carved out a successful career in sales in Western Canada and the mid-western states. Stuart helped form a high school band called Medusa and continued a life-long passion for music. His great love was the blues which led him to be the driving force behind the development of Blues at the Bow, converting the old Bow Theatre into one of the top blues music venues in Canada. Artists from across North America lined up to play at the Bow. Stuart loved jokes and always seemed to have the latest one on the tip of his tongue. Wherever he was at, he seemed to fill the room. You always knew when Stu was in the room. His grandchildren loved Gumpa Deuce. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in ST. MICHAEL'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1113 – 1st Street East, Bow Island, on Friday, February 19th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Fred Monk, celebrant. HUNTER Elizabeth Hunter of Medicine Hat, formerly of Lethbridge, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the age of 101 years, beloved wife of the late James Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Donald (Eileen) Hunter, Abbotsford, BC, (their children, Dan Hunter (Dorothy), Prince George, BC, Janet Steenson (Jan Plaetner), Abbotsford, BC, and Gail (John) DeGiovanni, Grimsby, Ont.; Lillian (Keith) Bennett, Medicine Hat, Alta, (their children, Linda(Randy) Keith, Calgary, Carol (Jim) Hintz, Peggy Wester (Grant Thompson), Calvin(Michelle) Bennett all from Medicine Hat Alta; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hunter (husband, Keith Hunter - deceased), Calgary, Alta, (their children, Kelly-Jo Hunter (Len Gosnell), and Trevor (Brandy) Hunter), all from Calgary,; as well as many great and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband James on April 24, 1990, one son Keith. Elizabeth (Saunders) (Lizzie) at the age of 3 moved with her parents from England to Fort Macleod, Alberta. There she met and married James Hunter in 1928. They moved to Spring Coulee, Alta, in 1929 where they farmed and raised their family. She was a very energetic lady and was a member of the United Church, and the U.C.W and served on various community committees. In 1986 Jim & Lizzie moved to Lethbridge, and in 2002 after Jim’s death, she moved into the Garden View Lodge, a place she so loved. In 2006 she moved again to Haven Care Centre in Medicine Hat, Alta. She will be remembered by many friends and family as a loving, caring and determined person. She loved life to its fullest, sharing her home remedies, reciting poetry and her ditties. She died peacefully with her family around. She leaves behind a wonderful heritage and she will be missed.
