BEXTE HUGO AUGUST BEXTE, beloved husband of Charlotte Bexte of Picture Butte, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the age of 77years. He was the devoted father to Christina Bexte (Ian Phillips) of Edmonton, Martina Bexte of Lethbridge, Karl Bexte (Linda) of Iron Springs and Dirk Bexte of Picture Butte and very proud grandfather of Lindsay, Taylor and Melissa. Dad was born in Namslau, Germany in 1932 and at the age of twenty-three immigrated to Canada with his family. Once settled in the Picture Butte area, he farmed there for many years and eventually moved to a small acreage. Dad was also one of the first growers to join the Lethbridge and District Exhibition and Farmer’s Market where over the course of almost forty years, he and mom cultivated a loyal customer base who enjoyed their diverse selection of flowers and vegetables. Dad’s quiet, steady and giving nature will be sadly missed by all of us who loved him, but most especially by his three granddaughters, Lindsay, Taylor and Melissa. HOFMAN Elisabeth (Bets) Hofman November 30, 1919 to February 12, 2010 ELISABETH (BETS) HOFMAN of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Hendrik (Henk) Willem Hofman, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at the age of 90. She was surrounded by her family. Elisabeth was born in Hellendorn, the Netherlands, to Johannes and Elsje Poelakker. When she was 15, she met the love of her life, Henk Hofman. Henk and Bets were married on June 19, 1942. In April of 1953 they immigrated to Canada with 4 young daughters. They first settled in Lethbridge, Alberta and a son joined the family. They then moved to Hamilton, Ontario but the call of the west was too strong and they returned to Lethbridge one year later. One more daughter joined the family. Mom was always one to keep busy. She loved knitting and sewing. All the girls could be seen in matching dresses sewn with much love by their mother. Babies and Barbie dolls enjoyed wonderful knitted fashion for years. Mom also loved to travel. She returned to Holland 13 times to visit family. She also travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii, where she snorkeled for the first time at age 75. She enjoyed many other activities like gardening, canning, biking, 5-pin bowling and carpet bowling. Elisabeth was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, the Klompen (Wooden shoes) Dancers, the Dutch Choir and the St. Andrews Church Choir. She lived her life to the fullest and with much joy. She always had a smile for everyone! Elisabeth is survived by her 6 children. Elsie (Ted) Dykstra of St. Albert, Alberta, Gerrie (Ken) Morrison of High River, Alberta, Verna (Harry) Vandersteen of Taber, Alberta, Jo-Anne Hegi of Lethbridge, Will (Nancy) Hofman of Lethbridge, and Betty (Al) Slomp of Nobleford, Alberta; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Elisabeth was predeceased by her parents, a son Wim (1943-1946), her husband Henk in 1974, a son-in-law Murray Koetse in 1986, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Hegi-Ronald, in 2009. HOUSTON Steve Houston of Fort Macleod beloved husband of Donna Houston passed away after a lengthy illness on February 11, 2010 at the age of 62. Steve was born in Canton, Illinois to Verda and Charles Houston on September 23, 1947. Steve and his family moved to Calgary in 1957. Steve met his loving wife November 30, 1974 and married September 13, 1975 in Milk River. Steve and Donna moved to Bow Island in 1995, and moved and settled in Fort Macleod in 2001. Steve joined the Kinsmen club in Milk River and was a member for 25 years. He achieved the status of Deputy Governor, and life member of the Milk River Kinsmen Club. He loved his family especially his daughter Doni and was very proud of his grandchildren Zach, Sydney, and Chase. He is survived by his wife, daughter Doni (Brian); his Grandchildren; his brother Dennis (Corinne) and three nephews Darren, Kevin, and Stuart, as well as numerous in-laws and their families. Steve was pre-deceased by his parents, and brother Mark, as well as his mother and father-in-law. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010, 2 P.M. at his home. HUNTER Elizabeth Hunter of Medicine Hat, formerly of Lethbridge, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the age of 101 years, beloved wife of the late James Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Donald (Eileen) Hunter, Abbotsford, BC, (their children, Dan Hunter (Dorothy), Prince George, BC, Janet Steenson (Jan Plaetner), Abbotsford, BC, and Gail (John) DeGiovanni, Grimsby, Ont.; Lillian (Keith) Bennett, Medicine Hat, Alta, (their children, Linda(Randy) Keith, Calgary, Carol (Jim) Hintz, Peggy Wester (Grant Thompson), Calvin (Michelle) Bennett all from Medicine Hat Alta; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hunter (husband, Keith Hunter - deceased), Calgary, Alta, (their children, Kelly-Jo Hunter (Len Gosnell), and Trevor (Brandy) Hunter), all from Calgary,; as well as many great and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband James on April 24, 1990, one son Keith. Elizabeth (Saunders) (Lizzie) at the age of 3 moved with her parents from England to Fort Macleod, Alberta. There she met and married James Hunter in 1928. They moved to Spring Coulee, Alta, in 1929 where they farmed and raised their family. She was a very energetic lady and was a member of the United Church, and the U.C.W and served on various community committees. In 1986 Jim & Lizzie moved to Lethbridge, and in 2002 after Jim’s death, she moved into the Garden View Lodge, a place she so loved. In 2006 she moved again to Haven Care Centre in Medicine Hat, Alta. She will be remembered by many friends and family as a loving, caring and determined person. She loved life to its fullest, sharing her home remedies, reciting poetry and her ditties. She died peacefully with her family around. She leaves behind a wonderful heritage and she will be missed. The funeral service will be held in Wuerfel Auditorium, South Country Village, (1720 Bell Street SW) on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John DeGiovanni officiating. JERRY FRANK KRAMPL July 11, 1951 – February 4, 2010 Jerry, an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoors man, grew up in southern Alberta, lived several years in Louisiana and returned to southern Alberta in 2006. MAGDALENE (MAGGIE) KORMOS April 25, 1931 – February 13, 2010 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maggie Kormos, beloved wife of the late Albert (Bert) Kormos. Maggie passed away at her home in Taber at the age of 78 years. Mom was born in Lethbridge on April 25, 1931 and spent her childhood growing up on the family farm and attending school in the Coaldale area. In 1948 Mom and Dad were married and later moved to Raymond. Mom worked at Stone’s Grocery store as well as in the Raymond Post Office. Later they moved to Taber where they owned and operated Massey Ferguson Big Sky Equipment Dealership and Mom was the secretary and bookkeeper for the business. Along with Dad she was an active member in the Boy Scouts Organization, 50 Plus Club, Indian Hills Golf Club and the First United Church. Mom enjoyed golfing, beating Dad at salmon fishing, gardening, and spending time with her kids and grandkids. Mom is survived by her son Ron (Sharon), daughter Marie (Bob) Halvorson and grandsons Ryan (Amber) and Darren (Stephanie). She is also survived by her brother Lesley (Shirley) Beres, her brother-in-law John (Cheryl) Kormos and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bert, parents George and Terez and infant brother Charles. MILLAR MRS. MARY MILLAR of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Angus G. (Bud) Millar, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Mary is survived by her sons Tim (Susan) Millar of Calgary, and Doug (Liz Ferrero) Millar of Lethbridge; daughter Catherine Millar of Pincher Creek; Tim and Susan’s children Patti and Carolyn; Doug’s children Paul and Julie; and Liz’s children Steven and Michael. Mary was predeceased by her husband Angus (Bud), parents William and Hazel D’Arcy and sisters Irene Cannam, Dorothy McWalters and Marjorie D’Arcy. Mary was born in 1919 in Alliance Alberta and raised in Alliance and Edmonton. She moved to Lethbridge in 1939 and married Angus (Bud) in 1943. Mary’s life and passions were her husband, children, grandchildren and her love of Waterton and the ranch at Twin Butte. She loved to play bridge, hike and golf and especially enjoyed her many friendships. She was an accomplished artist and she painted all her life in oils, watercolors and later in china painting. Mary was an elegant and gracious woman with a great sense of humor. She was the Mom of Waterton and will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her. VISSER MR. RONALD (RON) DOUGLAS VISSER, special friend of Lori Albert passed away suddenly in Elk Valley BC on Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the age of 49 years. Ron is survived by his children Chris Visser and Amanda Robinson of Lethbridge. He is also survived by one grandchild; Cyris Visser of Lethbridge, his father Henry Visser of Lethbridge; two sisters; Rochelle Taylor (Randy) of Calgary and Tania Visser (Mark) of Lethbridge. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Visser. Ron was born January 20, 1961 in Lethbridge and was raised and educated in Nobleford and Lethbridge. He worked as a truck driver and welder. He had a passion for working on vehicles in his spare time; he also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting. At the time of his passing he was living in Elk Valley BC. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
