A family of five was displaced from their home Sunday night after an afternoon fire left significant smoke damage to the residence.
Nobody was at the house in the 1200 block of 6 Avenue South when crews from three Lethbridge Fire and EMS stations responded just past 3:15 p.m.
The cause is still under investigation.
Acting Captain Shawn Folk said the building is non-liveable right now due to "smoke contamination."
"When we pulled up, there was visible smoke coming from one of the second storey roof ends," he said.
"We found that the fire was in the back in the kitchen. We noticed burn patterns that would be consistent with a fire that had started there. But at this time, until we know anything further, it's only speculation how the fire started."
The family was staying at a neighbours' house but declined to comment.
