63-year-old man, victim of Saturday assault, dies in hospital

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service is investigating a sudden death, after a 63-year-old male, who was the victim of an assault over the weekend, died Wednesday in hospital. At this time, it is unknown whether the man’s death was the result of the assault, according to a LRPS press release.

 An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary.
 Police added the identity of the male will not be released at this time.
 Saturday at approximately 5:40 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault in the area of 18th Street and 2nd Avenue South. Two males exited a vehicle, approached a 63-year-old male, who was on foot, and assaulted him. Emergecny services attended and transported the victim to hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Wednesday, police were contacted by the Medical Examiner’s Office and were notified the male had died in hospital.
Investigation in the matter is ongoing, accoridng to police, as the department said no further information will be released at this time.
