Yes he does. As far as the flow chart goes, he works for us, everyone else works for him and we pay for it. I do not recall where council has voted against a recommendation from the City Manager, does anyone.

I don't disagree but who is the final authority for almost all, but minor expenses? It is not the City Manager. You can claim otherwise, but reality tells me he is the CEO of a formally incorporated company. Union rules aside, he does have the authority to hire and fire.

Thanks, I was aware of the CoI guidance. However, the City provides over $500,000 per year to this organisation, but does not audit their books. How do I know that the Mayor's wife does not rx any benefit? Perception of a conflict usually is dealt with as a real conflict. I am not accusing any one of anything but the lack of transparency is bothersome, especially as it deals with public money.

I agree that the name is a poor one. As to your questions regarding conflict of interest I can say that according to the Municipal Government Act conflict of interest rules only apply when the mayor or member of council (or there immediate family) stands to gain or benefit financially from a council vote. Otherwise if they are in attendance at the time the MGA states that they must vote. While we as citizens may not like this it is law in AB. I am in no way excusing anything I am simply pointing out technical aspects of the current legislation.

Very good questions, indeed, #goinfishin! As his Lordship is fond of writing letters to the paper, perhaps he would like to respond to this thread in order to clear up any perceived doubts vis a vis the validity of name selection?

If enmax, 1st choice and the skate board park can sell the naming rights, why not this facility? Why was the announcement made before the business plan was reviewed and approved by Council? Why were the key criteria for name selection ignored? Why is the Mayor not in a conflict of interest due to his wife's involvement in the aac and the fact that seven of the ten committee members were his employees?
