Sorry your right. I'll check with weadick or Pastoor and double check that. I know you can vote for a MLA , in a candidates nomination race( between two pc candidates) with a pc membership. But of course that is provincial as you say.

I don't believe that Hillyer is a member of the PC (Progressive Conservative) party. Is not the federal party the CPC (Conservative Party of Canada) which is an amalgamation of the former federal PC party and the former Reform party? Thanks for the rest of the information in your post though.

So, these people never voted at all, in the last pro. election. Which is a shame. Had they had pc party memberships and lived in the area to vote for the candidates nomination that Hillyer was in,they may have gotten a person they were more comfortable with and then felt they could support the pc's in the pro/ fed election. I'm just pointing out options . I'm not saying what a person should do. But I have always felt if you don't vote, perhaps you don't have as much right to complain. There seems to be many people who complain and remain IDLE. They seem to expect others to fix all their problems for them. If you are not part of a solution are you part of the problem? I don't know, but it sure is frustating.

Quoting F.D. "How? I don't know....". PERHAPS YOU COULD TELL PEOPLE TO GO TO albertapc.ab.ca or call 1800 461 4443, the pc alberta office. Or people could go to Weadick's or Pastoor's office. Then people could get a pc membership - $5.00. That way they could vote at the next candidates nomination. That means they could vote for or against whoever runs against Hillyer next time. In a general election : provincial or fed, you can still vote for another party, of course. If you go to liberal.ca you can register to vote for the next federal liberal leader. There is no membership fee to register to vote. Although you can get a liberal party membership if you wish. You can be a member of as many political parties as you want. That way you may feel that you have some say in the opposition. Of course a strong opposition is great. Sometimes, you may want to vote for the person and not necessarily the party. I know a number of pc's who could not bring themselves to vote for Hillyer.

My friends and I are convinced that instead of trying to change our fellow seniors minds, it's hopeless they won't change, they are really that dumb, as they watch their bank account disappear, we have got to start trying to get the young people involved. How? I don't know, they are so fedup with all the fighting in the legislature they don't seem to want any part of it. If these opposition parties had shown some inteligence and formed one party years ago this stupidity would have been stopped. Stelmach got a majority with only 21 percent of the vote, because the vote was split up so badly. Forming new parties like the Wildrose just makes it easier for the Conservatives. Unfortunately It's become a case of wanting power, like Daniele Smith does, money for themselves, and who gives a damn about the well being of the people. The Lougheed government was completely opposite to these clowns. He cared. B.C. has two parties and the people aren't afraid to change, like Albertans are.

You've hit the nail on the head. Because it's so easy to buy favors from these so-called conservatives the corporations are pouring millions of dollars in donations into their bank accounts, allowing them to get better organized than the rest, who don't have the money. A perfect example is the Edmonton arena fiasco. Katz needing an additional $100 million to build the arena has apparently donated $430,000. to the conservatives. How much has Enbridge given them, or AltaLink wanting a $16 billion power line to the U.S. that will triple our power bills?

I accept your premise that voter apathy has resulted in the election of an under-qualified MP. Don't kid yourself though, the PCs are well-organised and ensure their supporters get out and vote. For those content to grit their teeth, write letters and whine, nothing is going to change until you get organised and awaken the sleeping masses. It will take someone with a better vision, courage of convictions and a well-run campaign. To date I have witnessed a lot of ideological BS, and little organisation needed to effect change.

There is nothing conservative or democratic about these guys. They have a majority and feel that they can do whatever they like. A lawyer said to me a few years ago, when talking about the Klein government, "This is likely the worse case of legalized fraud the world has ever seen. Here we have a government that is deliberately helping their corporate friends clean the people out of their wealth and it's all legal because these stupid Albertans keep re-electing them and allowing it to happen". "Unfortunately it's a well know fact that weak minded, easily led, easily fooled people make up the majority of any population in the world and you and I can't do anything about it. That's how dictators become so powerful, how suicide bombers are created and how Jimmy Jones got 913 people to commit suicide. These fools believe everything their leaders tell them". These were the words of a 86 year old former University Professor from Germany that I met in 2000.
