Canada produces 2% of the worlds Carbon emissions. You want to shut down our economy. China, India, and the U.S. are much bigger fish to fry. Don't forget we have already spent 2 billion in this province injecting CO into the ground. Gt off the oil sands mantra.

Perhaps we need to update building codes to force those living in isolated areas such as farms, ranches and acrages to become self sufficient for energy. Storage batteries, wind and solar generation, thermal heat pumps, better insulation could all become mandatory. In Cities and heavy industry, Slow Poke and other nuclear reactors could be used. Lets have some ideas on how to live and prosper as energy hogs or how to de-populate our society to the point it becomes self-sustaining.

that is true but this study also does show that the oilsands do not have the dark negative environmental impact that Gore and company say they do. We may have to look at developing other forms of energy but shutting down the oilsands carte blanche before they are found is not the answer and will have a lot more negative impact than a lot of environmentalis ts want to admit.

Dr. Weaver's paper gives an account of the consequences of burning various fossil fuel resources. Since there's so much more coal available to burn, burning it all will have unimaginable consequences. But that doesn't mean it's OK to burn all the other resources-- as Weaver has already said. I pointed out that we're already contributing a lot more than our share to the problem; if the rest of the world emits as much CO2 per capita as we will by burning the tar sands, the results will be disastrous. So the odds are that at some point we will have to stop. Where will Alberta be then?

Before you get the climate denialists all giddy read Weaver's statement in Science (13 May 2011:Vol. 332 no. 6031 pp. 795-796). He is committed to reducing CO2 from fossil fuels to zero, does not support the Keystone XL, and is fully committed to developing renewable energy. He emphasizes a different route than some of his fellow scientists. He is fully committed to reducing human-caused global warming.

I guess Mr. Brown missed Andrew Weaver, a foremost climate scientist and adviser to the UN IPCC panel this week. For several years Mr. Weaver has been quoted as the go to guy on global warming. Can't wait to see what they say about him now. http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Harnessing+oilsands+cause+climate+calamity/6189419/story.html

Let me get this straight, the global warming story is a money making scheme for Gore and Obama? Are they directing the work of nearly all of the world's climate scientists too? How deep does this conspiracy go?
