A trio of local bowlers are taking their game to the national level. Representing Galaxy Bowl, Kendra Turnbull, Caitlin Zucchelli and Kodee Pilling sent the pins scattering at the 2009 Alberta 10-Pin Youth Bowling Championship last month in Calgary. For that, the trio is off to the 2009 Canadian 10-Pin Federation National Youth Championship in Winnipeg May 29-31. “We have 30 bowlers in our program, so to have three champions at one team is pretty good,” said Galaxy Bowl coach Baden Pilling. Bowling in the bantam division in an eight-game rolloff, Turnbull bowled a pinfall of 1,059 for an average of 132 per game to capture top spot by 57 pins. In the junior division Zucchelli bowled a 1,419 total — an average of 177 each game — to win the provincial title, taking first place by 213 pins. In the senior girls division — in a 10-game rolloff — Pilling captured the provincial title by 11 pins, putting up a pinfall of 1,973 for an average of 197. Another Galaxy Bowl representative also made a run for a national berth as Vicki Moat took sixth spot in the junior girls division that was close outside of Zucchelli’s convincing top-spot finish. “She was only 45 pins out of second place, so other than Caitlin it was tight,” said Pilling.
