BOWDEN
With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, IRENE (BLONDIE) BOWDEN, on October 5, 2008. She was 98 years young.
Mom was born on February 11, 1910, the fifth child of George and Violet Terry.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Violet, as well as her two brothers; Austin (Mabel) and James (Minnie) and her four sisters; Mary (Joe) Thompson, Thera (Bob) Park, Vera (Dick) Wayling, and Agnes (Clifford) Price.
Irene married the love of her life Clarence James Bowden on February 29, 1928 (leap year) and they enjoyed 62 good years together. Their marriage produced three sons; William Clarence, Richard O’Dell, and Gordon Terry. Mom loved her family and the passing of her son Richard on July 25, 1969, her husband Clarence on March 14, 1990 and her granddaughter Lorene Bullock on October 16, 2007 were difficult days.
She is survived by two sons, William (Dorothy) and Gordon (Louise). She leaves 15 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.
After Clarence retired from the sugar factory, they really enjoyed life and spent many winters in Arizona. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked in the Primary, Relief Society, Young Women’s, and on the Activities Committee. She also served a mission with Dad working with the Warner Branch.
She will be greatly missed by her family but her memories and teaching will never be forgotten.
Her motto was "Give to the world the best you have, and the best will always come back to you."
Mom loved to sing and recite poetry and she shared her songs and poetry with everyone right up until her last day.
She is a special lady and loved by many.
We wish to give a special "Thank You" to the staff at St. Therese Villa for the loving care they gave our mom.
Friends may meet the family on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703–13 Street North, Lethbridge, or on Friday, October 10, 2008 prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
