Maybe oil companies need private insurance Print E-mail

On a recent Thursday, I heard that the Alberta government was going to delist a number of services including chiropractic. I said in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way that the next thing we will see is the Stelmach government subsidizing the oil companies.
Voila, the next day’s Lethbridge Herald carried the announcement that oil companies were to be subsidized by the Alberta government.
Six months ago they were declaring their largest ever profits (larger than the operating budgets of some countries). I would think they would be better able to weather this downturn than their customers that were gouged by their unregulated energy prices for the last few years. Maybe the oil companies are the ones that should have private insurance to cover their needs rather than the sick, elderly and infirm that are having their benefits cut.
