Dr. Tom Melling, MD, received his well-deserved honorary Doctor of Laws degree on June 5 at the spring convocation ceremonies at the University of Lethbridge. Congratulations, Dr. Melling!
You are the breath of fresh air. You have the courage to see the future. You plan ahead and are not afraid of change.
Doctors and nurses are companions with a mission, both locally and globally. New ways of providing health care and sickness care are drastically needed. Former medical models are in need of updating. We must have teamwork, realignment of duties, and changes incorporated in several acts to preserve the social, financial and the integrity of our tax base. It is a societal trust.
There are many, many overlapping practices, procedures and traditions that need to be re-examined. The medical profession can easily delegate more to nurses, physiotherapists and pharmacists with appropriate credentials, “scope of practices” with the right intervention by qualified practitioners.
Thank you, Dr. Tom Melling, for your bravery in proclaiming and forecasting our future health and sickness care.
