KEVIN BRENT STANDING ALONE
Born: September 5, 1967
Died: December 10, 2008
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of KEVIN BRENT STANDING ALONE, our beloved and cherished son, brother, uncle and great-uncle on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, in Old Agency. Kevin will be remembered and sadly missed by mom Angeline Standing Alone; siblings: Andrew, Alphonse (Marilyn), Jeffery (Priscilla), Andrew (Holly) Bull Calf, Nadine (Thomas), Marion (Rick) and Sandra, his aunts Florence Red Crow, Bernadette Young Pine, Pauline Tallow, Deloris Gadbois and RoseMarie Tail Feathers, his uncles Vincent White Quills, Rod (Audrey) White Quills, and Sidney Young Pine, stepson Chaz whom he helped raise as his own, and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Immediate family that have gone before him are his father, Emil Wings; his siblings, Alberta, Alec and Alvin and brother-in-law Alvin Bad Man.
Kevin was a cowboy. He tried his best to live the cowboy way, but he did so as a proud Blackfoot. Kevin carried with him the values and traditional characteristics of a true Blackfoot Indian. He was never one to speak bad words about anyone. He tried his best not to be angry with people. He helped raise his nieces and nephews as they were his first priority when they were around. He would feed them and make sure they understood what it meant to be neat. Kevin was fluent in his language and was a source of interpretation for those wanting to know how to say a certain word, or what it meant.
Kevin was the youngest of the family and his mother Angeline was always concerned about him. She would feel happy and relieved when he was visiting one of his family members or relatives. Whenever Kevin would return from visiting family, he would always end up at the Calling Last’s home. He enjoyed their company and friendship.
As a young man, Kevin was athletic. He won many trophies and medals in boxing, cross-country and motocross on his YZ 80 Yamaha. He later moved into the sport of rodeo in following the footsteps of his past relatives and his brothers-the Young Pine boys. He was especially fond of Paul Young Pine whom he regarded as his brother.
As a youngster, Kevin had an opportunity to be a stuntman in the movie, “Into the West.” He loved his music, his hot foods and visiting with people in Moses Lake.
His many family, relatives and friends will miss the light that shined so brightly in their lives. For, when the dust settles gently in the rodeo arena of life, Kevin will ride bravely and gently into that great unknown as a proud and humble warrior.
Wake Service will be held at CHIEF MOUNTAIN CHAPEL, Moses Lake, AB on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Blood Reserve, on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Pawell Andrasz Celebrant.

Chuck Laqua
1928 - 2008
Charles Russel Laqua, beloved husband of Lylla Laqua of Foremost, passed away in Bow Island on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the age of 80 years.
Besides his loving wife of 59 years Lylla, he is survived by his children Jerry (Ginger) Laqua of Foremost, Don (Evelyn) Laqua of Stirling, Bonnie (Dave) Kennedy of Lethbridge, Dean (Robyn) Laqua of Foremost, Janice (Randy) Yancie of Foremost and Adrienne Laqua of Lethbridge; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Bill (Louise) Laqua of Lethbridge and Bob (Lillian) Laqua of Sylvan Lake; sister Joyce O’Connell of Parkhill, Ontario as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Lyle; parents Bill & Mildred Laqua; granddaughter Cinnamon Laqua; son-in-law Dave Derksen and brother-in-law Victor O’Connell.
While farming was his passion, Chuck had many other talents and interests. In all his undertakings, whether planting or harvesting, building or renovating a house for family or a neighbor, skipping a curling team, pitching a baseball, hunting or fishing, he did it to the utmost of his ability. During the nineties he became interested in Lylla’s hobby of stained glass and soon they were spending their winters constructing memorial windows for the Foremost United Church (eight in all). This was a further labour of love for the church fellowship he served all his life. A man of few words, Chuck’s integrity, trustworthiness and love of family shone through. He was indeed the foundation of our family and we know how blessed we were.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Foremost United Church, 202 - 2 Avenue East, Foremost on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Burial to follow at the Foremost Cemetery.  After the service, family and friends are invited for lunch and fellowship at the Community Hall where no doubt the conversation will turn to, among other things, the Hoping community dances, the Lucky Strike Ball Club, Foremost curling in its hey-day, hunting with his family and buddies, or the church at Thistle Ridge and how no-one ever went home alone on a Sunday afternoon. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at www.southlandfuneral.com <http://www.southlandfuneral.com> .
