Paralympics get second-class coverage Print E-mail

I am just curious why the Olympics received so much more attention than the Paralympics though both were/are held in Vancouver this time around and both feature accomplished athletes from around the world.
I don’t accuse only the Lethbridge Herald of this, but I was hardly aware the Paralympics are always held right after the Olympics as no media source seems to pay it more mind than a quick, almost hidden mention every time there is an Olympic event.
Daily during these past Olympics, we received excited updates about how well Canada was progressing and yet so far (March 14) only one brief article relegated to section B of The Herald for the Paralympics. Well, sure, yes, that’s where the Sports section is. But the Olympics got front page almost daily during the two weeks they were on.
Is there a reason for this? I can’t say I am a sports enthusiast either, but even I notice the preferential treatment Olympic athletes get and yet, from my observation, Paralympic athletes deserve the same accolades and notice their Olympic athlete counterparts receive.
Someone mentioned how the Olympics have unified us. I suppose that only applies for the non-physically challenged athletes.
