FENSKE
MAISIE (BEDDOES) FENSKE has gone "Home" to be with her beloved Walter and her parents Margarete and Tom and brother John. She’s no doubt enjoying a reunion with members of the Chester and Clark family and Walter’s family. Remarkable Maisie had a goal to live to be 90. She surpassed that goal by two years, passing away at the Fort Macleod Community Support Hospital March 6, 2010 on her 92 birthday. Way to go, Maisie! She is survived by a sister-in-law Marie Fenske of Lethbridge, numerous nieces and nephews, her extended "Chester and Clark" family, as well as her Pioneer Lodge family.
Maisie’s birth was in a rural farmhouse near Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She was a farm girl at heart, and enjoyed the country life. Her parents taught her early to work hard, to be independent, and self sufficient. She was born with a loving, caring, and giving disposition. She served as a caregiver to many, going into homes where mothers were ill or recovering from childbirth. She helped on the family farm. In 1946 in response to a request with Lethbridge Unemployment, Maisie took a Greyhound Bus to Fort Macleod to work for Carrie and Tom Chester. Carrie was confined to a wheelchair with arthritis. Maisie became an integral part of the Chester family for many years. She was exceptional. She left the Chesters with mixed feelings to care for her own father. Maisie and her dad purchased a home together.
Maisie followed the motto: Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. She was a queen of garage sales and thrift shops. Maisie’s green thumb stocked many a pantry. After a whirlwind romance she married Walter Fenske on May 5, 1973 in Fort Macleod. A celebration to remember! Together they enjoyed sheep herding a few summers. They travelled to Hawaii and enjoyed visiting friends in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Walter predeceased her on May 12, 1999. She sold her little house on the corner in 2000 and moved into the Pioneer Lodge. Maisie’s beautiful, long, and nimble fingers were hardly ever idle. She fashioned many afghans, baby booties, and various other treasures with those fingers. Her hands were quick to serve others, quick to comfort, a joy to hold. Maisie was the genuine article. We miss you already! God Bless!
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm, on Wednesday March 10, 2010 at Eden’s Funeral Chapel, 2424 – 5 Ave, Fort Macleod.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Trinity United Church, 220 – 20 Street, Fort Macleod, with Reverend Eras Van Zyl officiating. Interment to follow in the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod.
Memorial donations in Maisie’s name may be made to the Community Support Beds, C/O of Fort Macleod Health Centre, P.O. Box 520, Fort Macleod, AB T0L 0Z0.
