Santa Claus parade ready to roll Print E-mail

Saturday marks the 28th annual Santa Claus Parade in Fort Macleod and surrounding the arrival of the jolly old elf himself is a whole flurry of yuletide activities.
The Fort Macleod Christmas Festival kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday with carolling at the west end of Main Street and the lighting of the community Christmas Tree. People will want to stay downtown for Moonlight Madness, a late-night shopping promotion, and enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride. The Fort Museum also hosts its annual Yuletide Festival Friday evening.
The Giant Christmas Craft Sale gets rolling at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Fort Macleod and District Community Hall featuring crafts and handmade items by local artists.
Starting at 10 a.m., Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump throws its doors open to celebrate Blackfoot arts, crafts and dance. Admission is free.
The Santa Claus Parade starts at 11 a.m. and makes its way north along 2 Avenue to Main Street and then to 6 Avenue. After the parade, children will be able to have their picture taken with Santa at the The Macleod Gazette office on Main Street. Proceeds from the photo sessions go to the Fort Macleod Society for Kids First.
The Seniors Welcome Mat and the Knights of Columbus host luncheons at noon.
At 2 p.m. the Empress Theatre will show The Santa Clause 3 movie starring Tim Allen. Admission is free for children.
At 2:30 p.m. the Rotary Club of Fort Macleod will host its annual fundraising auction at Midnight Stadium.
The Christmas festival wraps up with the annual family dance at 7 p.m. at the Fort Macleod and District Community Hall.
