Lights, Santa and action at Galt Gardens Print E-mail

The ninth annual Bright Lights Festival will kick off the holiday shopping season Friday in Galt Gardens.
Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. and Mayor Bob Tarleck will flick a switch to light one of the largest trees in the park at 6:30 p.m. Once the tree has been illuminated, Santa will take some time from his hectic schedule to chat with his fans and find out who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.
The pergola, Rotary Centennial Plaza and many of the beautiful trees in the park will be decorated with festive lighting. Last season, the city’s Heart of our City committee funded new ornamental light displays for the plaza.
These impressive luminous faux trees help to draw attention to the plaza during winter. Back by popular demand this year will be Christmas Movies in the Park and a number of Christmas classics will be shown, including “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Mickey’s Christmas Carole,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “Pluto’s Christmas Tree.”
The films will be shown on a large screen in the pergola area, and families will be able to watch the movies while waiting in line for Santa.
Besides Santa and the movies, the traditional hayrides, free hot chocolate, hot apple cider and popcorn will available — courtesy of the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ and participating merchants — many of whom have decorated their storefronts and interiors for the occasion.
Midnight Madness will happen in conjunction with the Bright Lights Festival, during which participating stores will keep their doors open late to provide customers with specials. For more information on the Bright Lights Festival, call the BRZ office, 403-327-9002.
