This will be the last Public Professor column for the summer. While many people look forward to a little rest and relaxation over the summer, academics also look forward to another “R” — research. For many, summer is a time to forget about teaching students and try to learn a few new things themselves.

Playing with the meaning of words is popular among headline writers. For example, with “Generic drugs causing pain to dispensers” (Dave Mabell, June 5) the negative impact generic drugs have on pharmacists’ bottom lines is ironically characterized as a pain.
