City’s spending numbers are getting scary Print E-mail

Very shortly city council will pass the property tax bylaw for 2010, giving residents at least the opportunity to know how much more they will be paying into city coffers, and on average it will be more — a lot more — since the key ingredient, spending, is already set.
After setting new tax rates, which will carry on the massive 147 per cent increase in municipal residential taxes since 2000 (beating growth and inflation by more than three to one), our council will sit down to formalize a long-term capital spending program that will well exceed the massive amounts of senior government grants — to be topped up from increased taxes, all before an election.

I told her I had 30 minutes left on my meter if she would like to use it. She responded by saying she would only be a few minutes, and proceeded to go into the dentist’s office, leaving the two toddlers alone in the car.
