Of course, not one of us thinks or imagines as we age things may happen to us physically, emotionally or cognitively that will result in our inability to care for ourselves; however, each of us hopes someone will care for us as we have cared for others during our lifetime.

President Obama’s cap and trade climate change legislation, the Clean Air Act, recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, will be presented at the World Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in November 2009, as the U.S. contribution to a cleaner world. Another less obvious reason for haste may be to avoid facing a collapsing climate change consensus. In recent months the voices of dissent have been rising sharply in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan and the U.S.

Greg Weadick’s column (June 26, Herald) certainly portrays a very rosy picture of where seniors care is being taken by this government. Time will tell if the majority of voters will be satisfied with this and all other aspects of health care that are being tampered with. Mr. Weadick, I am certain, is correct when he says not one of the people over age 65 have said to him, “Greg, I really want to move into a nursing home.” Not a single one has ever told him they look forward to the time when someone else tells them when they get up, go to bed, eat or take a bath.
