I read with interest Rob Sutherland’s Public Professor article about scientific self-correction with regard to the supposed connection between vaccination and autism. Truly this is a good news story.

Recent news briefs from the Calgary Board of Education mentioned they were seeking names to name their new school, and the name of Pierre Trudeau was mentioned.
That name was like throwing gasoline on a fire! A little historical background on Trudeau shows he was the man who stared down American oil mammoths’ attempts to take control of the “black gold” of Alberta that he wished to have shared with the whole of Canada.
Trudeau’s nationalism showed in 1975 when his minority Liberal government helped establish the Petro Canada Corporation to compete with the American oil firms. You heard just a few weeks ago that Suncor had just swallowed up Petro Canada. It had been slowly sold off, piece by piece, with each successive government, and they didn’t even raise a finger over the sale.

I was in Lethbridge on Tuesday, March 2, on business, working at a veterinary clinic. I filled up my vehicle with gas at the Canadian Tire gas bar and turned west bound into a residential street and realized that I was going the wrong direction. I was looking for a way to turn around and I saw a flash of light, realizing that this might be photo radar. I did turn around and did see the truck with the camera. I then turned back to see the sign that I did not see.

Chief Tom McKenzie has rightly pointed out the fact that the police services in this region need more space than is currently afforded in their current building.  Projected population growth, a broader range of policing services such as major crimes investigations, IT support and parking are all valid concerns. The purpose of this letter is to try and open up this discussion to a broader vision.
