Hilda Visser, coming from strong farm roots, usually is up for some of the antics and projects husband Les dreams up.
But when Visser hit the road running to try to salvage the 100-year-old Diamond City Train Depot that was headed for the dump, she had to ponder.
The structure, a mini-train station complete with roof overhang to allow travellers to board or disembark from the train on a platform out of the rain, had been sitting on a small foundation, weathered with a variety of siding materials marking past opportunities for service.

Choosing to research marine life guarantees the researcher time on and near the ocean in lush, exotic locales.
But it wasn’t the lure of Aruba or the Caribbean Islands that made Jennifer Mather a marine animal researcher. Even though being seaside was second nature to the Victoria-raised Mather, her childhood interest in beachcombing and collecting sea shells eventually led her to studying mollusks.

Winston Churchill High School is planning to celebrate its 50th anniversary throughout the 2010-11 school year.
The main events include an Alumni Staff barbecue Oct. 22 at the Galt Museum and a celebration Oct. 23 at the Coast Hotel featuring the music of The Chevelles.

Heavy rainfall gives a boost to cottonwoods Print E-mail

Heavy, persistent rains have filled the St. Mary and Waterton river dams, and put the Oldman River Dam in good shape with a delayed start to the irrigation season, and cottonwood trees might be the beneficiary.
