A formal ribbon-cutting will launch a weekend of free events next month, when Lethbridge becomes a “flagship” for Arts Days celebrations across Alberta.
The city’s nationally recognized Southern Alberta Art Gallery will host the Sept. 17 kickoff event. Lindsay Blackett, the province’s minister of  culture and community spirit, will help cut the ribbon as the upgraded gallery reopens after a year of construction.
Dozens of “ArtWalk” displays will also open that day and Saturday, while entertainment will be staged Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday. Details of the expanded program were unveiled Monday during a briefing at city hall.

A colourful jukebox belts out hits from the ’50s.
Muhly’s home in Fairview — a neighbourhood just outside city limits east of 43 Street — was one of four in the area on display to the public Sunday during the ninth annual McKillop Tour of Lethbridge Homes. The event is a fundraiser for McKillop United Church.
