BARE SHIN BONE
EDNA BARE SHIN BONE (Otah koi kanis kiinaakii) passed away peacefully, lovingly surrounded by her family on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 61 years.
Born at the Blood Indian Hospital, March 18, 1952 to Paul and Mary Stella (Across the Mountain) Bare Shin Bone. She was raised traditionally with a very happy childhood in Issoitapi (Riverside people) in the Levern Community. Growing up alongside Grammas and Grandpas and cousins in the river valley, living the down to earth simple life, living in harmony with nature, a time when everyone spoke the Blackfoot language in the 50’s and 60’s.
From Edna’s maternal side of family, she comes from royalty (Ninapookai) from the lineage of Hereditary Chief, Frances Shot Both Sides/Crop Eared Wolf (maternal great grandfather) of the Mammoyissi Clan and paternal side, the lineage of Sundance Lodge bundle holders, the Bear Shin Bones. Following the legacy of her lineage, Edna was a great Matriarch and lived an exemplary, traditional way of life following the footsteps of her late Matriachs.
She attended St. Mary’s Residential School at the age of 8 years old; relocating and graduating from McCoy High School in Medicine Hat in 1970. She continued onto College where she received her Social Work Diploma. She was employed with Red Crow College for 12 years, as a Student Counselor at the time of her passing. Edna was friends with everyone and she was well liked in the Community as an “Iikina’pitapii", loving and caring person.
Edna is the backbone of her family and a great loss. Edna remained single but adopted children and is survived by her three children: Pam (John) and Angel Bare Shin Bone and Roxanne First Charger, eight grandchildren: Cecile, Teona, Rhiannon and Baby John Bare Shin Bone, Tyrell Townend, Trontay, Jacob Bare Shin Bone and Rasheda Brown Weasel. Survived by her Siblings: Brothers, Patrick (Sylvia) and Bruce (Carol) ; Sisters: Rono, Brenda, Carmen (Dennis); Adopted sisters: Lucille Bare Shin Bone, Linda Shot Both Sides, Sylvia Low Horn, Gail Many Bears, Debbie First Charger, Vivian Left Hand-Clark, Tara Bare Shin Bone, Alexandra Cat Face; adopted brother, Herman Yellow Old Woman from Siksika, Uncles Joe, James and Norbert Across The Mountain and Aunt Christine Delorme from Edmonton, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, Paul and Mary Stella (Across The Mountain) Bare Shin Bone, adopted brothers and sisters Reo, Delores, Paul Jr. Hairy Bull,. special son, late Ethan Bare Shin Bone; maternal grandparents John and Lily Across The Mountain; paternal grandparents Bare Shin Bone and Three Sissors woman, paternal great grandfather Satoits (West) Aunts: Cecile Striped Wolf, Emma Rides at the Door, Lucy Crazy Bull, Annie Bare Shin Bone, Bernadette Hairy Bull, Isabel Cole, Lily and Mary Across the Mountain; Uncles: John Bare Shin Bone and Roger Across the Mountain.
Also survived by her extended family: Gros Ventre Boys from Fort Peck, Shot Both Sides relatives from Oklahoma, Buckskins, Vielles, Day Chief, Weasel Moccasins, Crop Eared Wolf, Cat Face, Morning Owl, Standing Alone, Fox, Many Fingers, Wells, Wadsworths, Red Crows, Brave Rocks, Eagle Plumes numerous relatives from Piikuni, Strikes With a Gun, Crow Shoes, Smiths. The family apologizes for any names we may have missed.
A Wake Service will be held at the Moses Lake Gym, Blood Reserve on Saturday, May 18th from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. continuing all night and Sunday at Edna’s residence. The Funeral Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Monday, May 20th at 1:00 P.m. Interment in the Blood Band Cemetery.

DUNN, Corinne
1923 – 2013
Corinne Eleanor Dunn of Red Deer passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Corinne, nee McColl, was born and raised in Lethbridge, where she met and married Malcolm.
They spent from 1950 to 1965 in Blairmore, then relocated to Red Deer, where they have resided for the past 48 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Malcolm (Mac), her children Patricia (Ray) Duffy of Edmonton and Peter (Isabel) of Blairmore, as well as by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Corinne was predeceased by her six sisters, two brothers and two of her grandchildren. Her family would like to express their appreciation for care provided to Corinne over the past two years, in particular to Dr. Maureen McCall, Dr. Kym Jim, the nursing staff of several wards in the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and all the staff at Aspen Ridge Seniors Living facility. MADELINE TEKLA GUGALA, passed away suddenly at home on May 15,2013 at the age of 15 years.
She is survived by her mother Daphne Gugala; her aunts and uncles - Terri and Phil Uren, Judi and Murray Paddon, Nancy and Tony Bowman, Barb and Steve Lea; her grandparents - Liz and Frank Uren, Irene Gugala and Louise and Bryce Jensen. Maddie is also survived by her cousins whom she loved very much - Hillari (Joel), Ethan, Kye, Noël, Petra, Geneva, Gwyneth, Gideon, Angela (Jeff), and James.
Madeline was predeceased by her father; Tom Gugala, grandfather Rudy Gugala, and grandmother Gwen Uren.
Madeline had a very gentle spirit and was concerned with the happiness of others even more so than herself and was fiercely loyal to her friends. She was a wonderful artist and loved to spend time drawing and painting. She loved swimming, yoga, dancing, and anime.
Madeline loved her pets and was always concerned about their well being. For those wanting to make a donation please consider an animal rescue group.
Perhaps in that next place we will understand more and be able to love in whatever final ways there are. Maybe then we shall understand why we cannot be together now.
In Madeline's memory, please gather your children close and tell them that you love them.

LOIS VIVIAN HEGGIE (MILNER), beloved wife of the late George ‘Judd’ Heggie of Raymond, passed away in Raymond on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her children: Wayne (Brenda) of Magrath, Leanne (Charlie) Sheen of Boyle, AB, Kathleen (David-deceased) Harris of Raymond, Maureen (Simon) Kramer of Lethbridge, Michael (Barbara) of Lethbridge, Roy (deceased) (Cindy) of Cardston, and Keith (Brenda) of Billings, Montana. Lois is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers: Walter (Helga), Randy (Nikki), Bob (Jane), Dennis (Kathy), and sisters-in-law Donna Schumers and Margaret Reay.
Lois was predeceased by her parents Marshall and Sara Milner; son Roy Heggie; sisters Joyce Hosteller, Alice Wilde; brother Kenneth Milner; and grandson Casson.
Mom was born in Raymond on November 19, 1926. She served a mission in Northern California. She had many callings in the church. Mom worked for the Ridgeview Lodge for many years as the matron. She loved to read, garden, travel and sew. Lois enjoyed visits from her family.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Good Samaritans in Raymond.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, KNIGHT STREET CHAPEL, 260 E 200 N, Raymond, Alberta, with Bishop Robert Baker officiating.

IWAMOTO, Hisako

Following a brief illness, Hisako Iwamoto (Konno), passed away in Calgary on May 15, 2013.
Born in Mission, BC on March 27, 1929 she moved to Southern Alberta with her family in 1944. She married Masayoshi Iwamoto in 1950 and raised their family in Iron Springs. Upon retirement, they moved to Coalhurst where they resided until 2001. Following Mas’ passing, Hisako moved to Calgary.
Hisako, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother leaves to mourn her children, Larry (Lynne) Iwamoto, Joy (Kim) Hanson, Rob Iwamoto, Wendy (Henry) Van Nistelrooy, Dean Iwamoto; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister Ann Konno; and two brothers Akira (Chick) and Naozo (Marie) Konno. She was predeceased by her husband Masayoshi; granddaughter Adrienne; brothers Katsushige and Tsutomu Konno; and sister Sachiko Ikebuchi.

Nick Donick, beloved husband of Linda Donick for nearly 64 years, passed away peacefully on Sat., May 11, 2013 at the age of 86. He is also survived by daughter: Brenda Donick & children, Laurie, Bobbi & James (Tabitha) & great-grandchildren, Tyler & Tanner; Kayleigh & Evan; & daughter, Debra (Mike) Holland & children, Raegan & Jessica.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Dolly & Nick Sr., and sisters: Anne & Kay, brothers: Alex, Bill, Dennis, Johnny & Micheal.
Nick was born & raised in Taber. After a short career in the oil patch, Nick & Linda ran a successful mixed farming & purebred Hereford business before retiring in 2002.
Nick enjoyed spending time with family & friends, fishing, traveling, card games & watching sports. He taught his family the value of being a hard worker.
A private graveside interment was held at Nick’s request. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of one’s choice.
ROOT, JEROME (1925-2013)
Our Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather will be sadly missed.
Jerry Root of Lomond, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 9 at the Brooks Hospital. He leaves to mourn his daughter Doreen, son Larry, grandson Mathew (Jessie), granddaughter Kayla (Mackenzie) and great granddaughter Nyla. He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his special friend Isabelle. Jerry was born February 25, 1925 on the homestead in Lomond and he lived in the area until 2010 when he moved to Brooks. He was predeceased by his wife Emma of 49 years in 2003. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held upstairs in the Lomond Community Hall on Saturday, June 1 at 1 PM. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors that cared for Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alhzeimer Society of Alberta.

MARIE TURNER, loving wife of the late Ed Turner, passed away suddenly on May 17, 2013.
Cherishing her memory are her children Carol Taylor, Doug (Audrey) Turner, grandchildren Stuart (Betty) Taylor, Anna (Matthew) Graves, Corey (Angie), Ryan, Shaun (Shelby), Kyle (Devynn) Turner, great-grandchildren Kristen, Scott, Elizabeth, Samantha, Nicole and Ciara.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Ed, daughter Gwen, son-in-law Dan Taylor, her parents and numerous family members. Marie was born on August 1, 1923, the only child of Doug and Jennie Weir. She loved her home on the family ranch. She attended school at Masinasin and Coutts. She married her true love Ed Turner in 1944. They managed the ranch and raised their children. Together they enjoyed photography, snowmobiling, golf and their grandchildren. She spent her retirement years between Mesa and the ranch. She loved her life in the two spots, and enjoyed travelling and going on cruises with family and friends. Before moving to Milk River six years ago, she rode her grandson's horse and went for a round on the combine. Her final years were spent at the Prairie Rose Lodge in the company of her friends. Dorothy, Annette and all the staff became family to her. She felt treasured and safe. She valued these relationships, her friends and family with all her heart.
The family is truly thankful to all those who cared for Marie in her final hours, Prairie Rose Lodge, Milk River Hospital and Chinook Regional Hospital.
