BROWN
MR. ALLAN BROWN of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Elaine, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2008 at the age of 80 years.
Besides his loving wife Elaine, Allan is survived by his daughters Deb Forsyth, Alana (Doug) Macfarlane, son Bob (Barb) Brown; grandchildren Kyle McNab and Shana McNab; sisters Mary Lou (Stan) Balkham; brother Buster (Jo) Brown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Allan was predeceased by his parents David and Matilda Brown, brother Jim Brown and special son-in-law Bob Forsyth.
Allan was born in Innisfail to Dave and Matilda Brown and remained there until the age of six years when the family moved to Foremost. Allan moved to Lethbridge and in 1950 his dad bought National Neon Displays Limited in Lethbridge and Calgary. Over the years Allan and his brothers purchased shares in the Company. Eventually Dave retired and the "shop" was then owned and operated by the boys. National Neon remained in the family until Allan’s retirement.
Allan was a respected and well known business man in Lethbridge. He was an avid golfer, curler and during his younger years played many hockey games on various teams while up to his "!!!" in snow and cold outside. Allan was a past member of the Downtown Rotary Club, Elks Club and Lethbridge Country Club. He loved to garden, plant flowers, work in the garage, fabricated anything and always had an answer to any question you might have. Allan and Elaine went down south for years, made many friends, golfed, played cards and checked everything out. Allan’s greatest joy in his life was his two grandchildren Kyle and Shana. There was nothing he would not do for them and he entertained them at every opportunity. He taught them how to value education, be hard working, fish, camp, river float, ride bikes and look at life as an opportunity to learn. Allan will surely be missed by his family, his friends and anyone who had the good fortune to meet or know him.
"He is still lighting up the sky".
At Allan’s request a private family service will take place at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #207, 542 – 7 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2H1 or the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500, Stn.S. Edmonton, Alberta, T6E6K2.

BURGE
ARTHUR JAMES (JIM) BURGE of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mary Ann Burge, passed away on May 10th, 2008, at the age of 60, due to complications following hip reconstructive surgery at the Foothills Medical Center in Calgary. This operation was the result of an automobile accident in December of 2001.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles (Chick) Burge in June of 2007.
Jim was born in Edmonton, AB in 1948 and married the "love of his life" Mary Ann Byrne, in 1969. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; daughter Marnie Janine (Rob) Simpson and grandchildren Gavin and Reese of Omaha, Nebraska; son Dennis James Burge of Calgary; mother Effie (Waddle) Burge of Lethbridge; mother-in-law Mildred (Johnson) Byrne of Lethbridge; sister Lucie (Judd) Willson of Helena, Montana; nieces Darla Lilly of Lansing, Kansas and Debra Jenner of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Jim’s public schooling took place in Coaldale culminating with his graduation from the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. He attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) receiving a diploma in Electronics.
Jim transcended well beyond his education and enjoyed a very long and successful career with his last position as General Manager for an international GPS company in Scottsdale Arizona. Unfortunately, due to the injuries sustained in the automobile accident Jim was forced into early retirement in 2005. He had many goals for himself and his career that were left unfulfilled. Jim and his wife Mary Ann then moved back to Lethbridge, Alberta to be close to their parents.
All who knew Jim admired his courage and strength in dealing with the physical injuries, pain and multiple surgeries following the automobile accident. Jim never showed the amount of discomfort he endured daily. Jim and his wife Mary Ann have spent the last few years of retirement traveling, spending time with family and friends but above all else enjoying each other.
A Memorial Service will be held in celebration of Jim’s life at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 - 11th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating.

VALENTINE – Robert James "Jim"
January 25, 1950 – May 11, 2008

He leaves behind his wife Anne Valentine; children Holly and Sean Gifford of Calgary; brother Les Valentine (Joan) of Lethbridge; sister Judy Fleming (Harold) of Barons and numerous nieces, "his girls", of whom he was very proud. He also leaves his best friend Neil Milner of Calgary, along with many other close friends and his entire Safeway family. His beloved pugs, Daisy and Bailey, will also miss him tremendously.

He was then Safeway Store Manager in a number of locations until 1993, when he moved into Head Office to become a Manager of National Categories, responsible for coordination and buying of specific products for Safeway stores nation wide. He spent a number of very enjoyable years with the produce team and most recently with the meat buying team. In 2003 he received the prestigious President’s Award for outstanding achievement.
Anne and Jim were married on Valentine’s Day 2001. Their time together was too short, but they were seven wonderful years. As his many friends will attest, Jim was a warm- hearted and generous man.
